I've gotta make some changes to the family cell plan. Does anyone know if one company is superior to the others as far as reception around the campus? I currently have AT&T and can change if something else is any better, but I need to know before I get locked in to another two years.

when I went verizon was really good

speaking of cell phones when are you permited to use them? ever...? also what do you bring when your report in july...?

I have AT&T and have no problems. I don't really think that there is any service that is worse than others, considering our proximity to NYC. There are certain buildings and places on campus that are worse than others for reception (Rogers Hall, Barry Hall and the gate), but that seems to effect everyone.

Plebes used to not have cell phone privileges at all, but since the majority of the pay phones were removed last year, they are now allowed to use them on Sundays. The rule on this is pretty strict until after Acceptance Day. At that point, they may be allowed to have them more often. After Recognition, there are no limits on cell phone use for the 4/C.

Verizon, probably like others, have various quality of service.
Reception will vary:
Are you on 3rd floor(better reception)?, or down on 1st floor?;
Are you on the side of the building facing wherever the cell tower is located, or on the other side?
Are you on the end of one of the wings, or surrounded by concrete and steel infrastructure?

In short, our son has Verizon coverage.
Some rooms have been better than others.
Don't worry, if you don't have a good room this time, you'll move to another.

You won't have as much opportunity to use your cellphone as you would like. And, for Plebes, you will be standing at attention OUTSIDE when you ARE allowed to use them -- shorter conversations in the winter than in the fall/spring.

Cell service does vary. Usually in the buildings we have terrible service...as in none. But its true its where you are. Last year I was on the 1st floor and had to go outside in the cold to get cell service...now i'm on the 3rd floor and get service right in the comfort of my own room...its pretty nice. I've had both Verizon and AT&T...both have their own deadspots on campus.
