Cell Phones

If you go away like out of state. Do you guys keep the number you have from home or do you get a new number from where your college is???

Good question. I have a friend whose home state is California but always get an area code from the Midwest for her cell phone (she'll be moving out there anyway soon). Her reasoning is that everyone has a cell phone and a lot of our plans are national. But I also understand that these plans get pretty expensive, so I think it depends on who you plan to call.

I kept my number from home, all my friends from home already had it. It's seriously a pain to get a new cell number and having to tell everyone. I do have a national plan though.

i kept the same area code too, it doesn't make a difference. You need a national plan anyway cuz most schools don't offer long distance service anymore because of the proliferation of cell phones, so if you don't have a national plan and change the area code, you won't be able to get in touch with your parents or people from highschool.

Your best bet is to make sure you have a national plan and don't bother change anything.

Agreed with packrbackr. The only people who got local numbers were international students, because international plans really are expensive. Otherwise, just get a nationwide cell plan and you'll be set.

yeah. certainly go with a nationwide plan. i mean, you never have to worry about extra charges or anything. plus, most providers now have free mobile to mobile for people using their service, and many of my college friends that i call have use the same provider, so it's free anyway.

I'm pretty sure all carriers offer nationwide services these days...

almost everyone just keeps thier home number, since everyone uses thier cell phones (I don't even have a land line), and most all carriers have free nationwide services (and long distance calling), it's no biggy.. people just give thier 10-digit number
