Cell phones

I was looking for a new cell phone but are cadets allowed to have camera phones? are there any cell phone specifications or anything?

Yes you can have a camera phone. As a Basic Cadet you will not have access to your phone unless specifically granted by your BCT leadership. When you get accepted in mid august you may get your phone back for weekend use (will depend on your Ac/year squadron). When Prog mid-term occurs if you are not on Academic or any other probation you will probably get unlimited priveleges until "Ramp Up" or "Forty Days" the period before recognition. The Squadrons are currently restricting phone use in some cases. You can have any phone, but media rules may apply.

There's a better thread for this, I know, but this is the most recent. When people say "You won't have your cell phone" or "The cell phone will be taken away", where does it actually go?
There was advice in a previous thread that basic cadets mail their phones home, and get them later, to prevent "misplacement". Is it really unwise to leave cell phones in the care of... whoever takes care of them?

No, it's fine. I don't know anyone who's ever had a problem with lost items. Rest assured that they're safely stored away.

Unless your upperclassmen in charge is an idiot, you're fine. Theft is not much of a problem here.

Usually, they collect them, seal them in some sort of package and store it in a safe location.

My squadmate had his $300 watch "lost." Only time I've heard of it happening, but I'd say just have it mailed out and avoid any chances of it being lost or stolen.
