Centennial Scholar...what is it?

Hey I have a question…does anyone know exactly what this is? My letter told me that it means I get a 4000 grant to explore a special interest or something but I am still kind of unclear exactly what it entails. Also, how many people are made centennial scholars? Any information would be greatly appreaciated! Thanks:)

I think about 7-15 people are made centennial scholars in each class of 500. So CONGRATULATIONS!!! its a huge achievement. And the 4000 dollars you can use to go abroad in the summer or during the year to do research on your specific interest such as Languages, Biology etc. I don't know all that much because I'm not in the program but I'm just letting you know what I do.

Yeah, it's a very selective research scholarship program. You get credit to do an independent study or creative project under a mentor. You must have made your academic interests pretty clear on your application.

Wow thanks! I had no idea it was that big a deal! I don't know if I really made my interests clear...I said that I wanted to double major in dance and psychology, and I was interested in history. I guess they took that to mean I was interested in reasearch!

Your project doesn't have to be research in that sense. It could be creating a dance piece or something. Check out some of the old projects... there are the standard academic papers, but then a recorded oral history, a student film, experimental fiction, a selection of paintings, monologues, and original music from a student who studied Japanese culture in Mexico... you can do almost anything.
