Last yr they were listed as regional director. Definetely update your resume. Speak to your ALO 1st, they may be able to assist in the updating b4 contacting them, and ask the ALO if the AFA counselor is the person it is being sent to. Our ALO know our regional and talked to her regularly.

Ok, give you guys an update here, my retake is Tuesday. I have hit above average in bball pushups and pull ups. Above in shuttle and max sit ups. I'm worried about the mile though I know they don't put out minimum numbers, but if I get a 745 mile(way below average) do you think that will me good?

I think that was about my time when I took it years ago.

Really?

I think thats where my time is gonna be Because I have ran my butt off for about a month now and my time is under 7, but I know because of the other events it will be worse.

Do what DS did, do the whole test in order and you will get true scores.

DOn't rush it, they will not ask for a 3rd re-take, You don't know what your WCS is, it could be only 1 pt from an appt. You have until Feb to complete it. Not handing it back in in days could hurt you less b/c your score could be higher later on.

I have stated b4 what DS landed up with
14 pulls up - orig 6
95 sit ups - orig 50's
89 push-ups orig 45
77 bball orig @60 (can't remember)
@7:14 run orig 7:43
@ 9 shuttle with no change.

When he took it the 1st time he didn't realize that it could be a make or break, he just figured that it is a part of 20% and that it might only be worth 5% total of his WCS. Learned very quickly that 5% can be what holds you back or gets you over the top.

O I havent rushed it at all. They asked to retake in the begining of october. I have definitly improved.

YAY! So I did much better, Ill post old(if i can remeber correctly) and new.

Old
bball: 58
Pullups: 14
Shuttle: 8.8
sit ups:93
push ups:58
Mile: 8:27

NEW!
bball: 68
Pull Ups: 15
Shuttle: 8.9
Sit ups: 95 :D
Push ups: 67 :D
mile: 7:23 :D :D

Congrats!

I guess it was the mile that they were worried about. I can only assume that the mile and the shuttle made them question the scores.

Those scores are something you should be proud of...pull-ups is close to max, and sit ups are max. AGAIN CONGRATS

Thanks :D

I called after they told me to retake to see what needed work, my counsler said the mile, bball and push ups

So, if you need to redo something they will let you know? I just took my CFA (late, I know...the holiday season messed up some of the scheduling), and my mile was really bad. I'm pretty sure this is due to the weather. I was used to running in a gym, and then did the CFA outside in 23* F. Not the smartest idea.

I'm semi-new to the boards, having not posted for several months, and for some reason I thought the CFA was a once-and-done thing. Apparently not?

Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Only the AFA will request you to re-take. You can't get into the file unless they un-lock it. It is a rarity that it happens. If they ask you to re-take it, it means they have faith in your packet and just need reassurances that you can make it throught BCT.

The AFA doesn't care what the weather was like, b/c BCT is not easy and you need to pass it. They are very concerned at the AFA about the CFA due to the altitude. It is a killer for some kids in the beginning to get adjusted to.

Also a real quick lesson...no excuses accepted. Other lesson for everybody practice the CFA in real situation, the weather can be a factor...not fun doing the run in NC/GA/TX/FL in Sept with 90 temp and 90% humidity. This is why to get the best scores you need to practice, practice, practice and in the manner in which you will be tested by. If you know its going to rain don't take the test that day, same if it is incredibly windy. Just reschedule it. Trust me the regionals don't have a calendar stating Candidate ABC you missed your CFA test.

Thanks for the info.

Just to confirm, it is the AFA that requests a retake. I was informed this week by my counselor that the admissions board requested that I retake the CFA. Can't say I was really surprised. I only managed 26 pushups, which for a guy is pretty darn bad. My ALO suggested, and I agree, that I shoot for at least 40 pushups. Doing that and maybe getting another pull-up (did 8) should show the admissions board that I am committed to improvement. I am glad though that I decided to submit those scores, even though I have to retake. It gave the board a chance to review my file and reassure me that I am competitive.

Mikil: When I took my CFA is also was about 25* outside (gotta love the Colorado weather :D), my ALO who also administered the test said that it was fine and wrote a note stating that it was very cold outside when I took the test. I'm sure they are going to understand

Yes, only the AFA can request the re-take. They obviously see something in your file that says mentally no problem, physically not sure.

I would try for alot more than 40, esp. since you can do 8 pull-ups, which suggests you have upper body strength...what did you get for the bb?

Look up the max pts for CFA. I believe push-ups are @ 85, so even 40 is low. The AFA is very worried about the CFA b/c of their alt.

If I recall correctly the maxs they are
BB 100
P-ups @ 85
S-ups @90
Pull-ups @ 18
Shuttle @8-9 secs
Mile @6 min

So go back and look at your entire CFA...I also think you have until @Mar 1 to submit, don't rush it, take a month and get everything to improve dramatically. They will not review your entire file, just re-score the CFA

Now off the computer go out and buy a pull-up bar. Hang it in your doorway, and everytime you enter or exit do at least 5 pull-ups than keep adding more pull-ups. In a few weeks you will be amazed how many more you can do and that will help your CFA (i.e. 8 pullups and than getting up to 13/14 you will get more pts...it also adds upperbody strength

The BB was also low. 56' I think. Hopefully I will get that up too. Of course, 8 pull-ups is alright, not great. Everything else was good. 8.7 second shuttle run. 84 sit-ups. 5:55 mile. I will hopefully have my coach administer the CFA either next week or the week after that to set another benchmark. I would like to think my pushups have gotten better since December 1.

[EDIT] The mile max is 5:20, rather than 6 minutes. Just happen to know that one since it's the only one that I am near.

Iceman, to offer some help on push-ups. Try different positions with your arms. I prefer a wider stance, which will use more pecs and back. The narrower you go the more triceps you will use. Also, try to keep your head up when doing them. Possible make a rule for yourself, like every time you get on CC you are going to do as many push-ups as possible.

That's a good idea Nobility... Something like 50 pushups for each post. I was also thinking about getting the Perfect Pushup. It is very well reviewed on Amazon. Any thoughts about that and whether it will help the overall pushup count.

Finally, which part of Ohio do you live in?

I use the perfect push up more for muscle toning. I would just practice it the way your going to perform.

Here are my current and best official scores. How do they look?

BB - 73' 2"
Pullups - 16
Shuttle - 9:24 sec
Situps - 95
Pushups - 69
Mile - 7:13
