How long should it take for the AFA to process the CFA? I submitted it a week ago, and it still has not been processed, thus rendering the application incomplete.

At most two weeks, I still have to retake mine D:

Next week :D I have def improved cant wait to retake :D

They only update on Monday and Wed/Thurs. so if your submitted on Friday, but thay didn't receive it, it might take a full week. Don't worry.

Best suggestion call your regional and just ask if she has gotten it. Ask if it was submitted in time for the last board. However remember if the entire slate hasn't submitted you will not get an answer.

I submitted last Tuesday (night). The admissions website was down all of Wednesday, so perhaps that played some role in the delay. Who is my regional? Is it the admissions counselor listed on my application webpage? Any idea when/how often the board meets?

I can't believe my topic has lasted this long :D

Regional is listed on your page, and last year they met every Monday

CFA was processed Tuesday, so the file is now complete (with nomination). I guess I now prepare for a long wait?

Yep, hurry up and wait. Get used to it.

Can you explain your last comment; entire slate etc? Are you referring to the entire slate coming back from the board?

Reason I'm curious about your comment; DS's application has been complete "in theory" for 5-6 weeks and still shows items missing that admissions acknowledges they received but haven't updated so the app still reads incomplete...

Can't answer why it says incomplete. Call and ask what is missing.

The entire slate thing is simple to explain. 10 names go up from the MOC with no principal, everyone is assigned a WCS, now if your child is on that slate and their file is incomplete, that means the board can't assess pts until it is complete. Which than means the 9 other kids are waiting to find out what DS's score is. Once he goes up and the entire slate has a WCS they give the appt to the highest score.

Where is the check mark that is missing?

well if that is the case, his MOC hasn't even selected his nom's so if they are waiting on him it will be a while longer....I didn't realize they wait on the MOC.

there is nothing missing and he has called and confirmed as well as his guidance counselor and ALO, it says his transcripts and school profile are missing but they acknowledge they have everything, just haven't processed it all...given the above that makes some sense now

thanks

I realized that a nomination in no way meant an appointment to the Academy, but I guess I thought it bumped my odds higher than 1 in 10. That seems a little discouraging. My MOC has one vacancy. Now, I didn't have an interview with her (or her panel), so maybe that means that there were not even ten people that applied, but still...

On a side note, what does DS stand for?

DS = Dear Son.

Very rarely does a slate go up without it being full. For DS only 1 of the 3 MOC's had an interview. I would think OH would have a full slate, even from the ruralist areas. Don't get too concerned, because the nom gets you in.

rjrzoom57... the board can assign the WCS, but can't give an appt until all ten are in from the slate and since he doesn't have a nom, he can't even go up, until he does. I know it sounds confusing, but to get a WCS your entire packet must be complete including a nom source (at least that is what we were told), than to get the appt everybody on the sources slate must have a WCS. When everybody gets their WCS, the one with highest wins the appt. Then there is the pool. A whole new ball of wax for that.

maybe the USAFA does things a bit differently, when our oldest applied to the Naval Academy, once his application was complete it was reviewed prior to his Nom and he was found to be triple Q'd, once he received his nom from our MOC his was in the final pool of 1800-2000 applicants that were triple Q'd with noms that competed for an appointment, which he rec'd.

Son #2 is only concerned about seeing his application considered complete given the amount of time that has passed since admissioned acknowledge receipt of all material. If they don't review his application until they are sure he has a nom than it makes sense, it's just not our understanding of the sequence of events. The good news is our MOC should be letting people know in the next 30 days, so either way he should have a better idea where he stands.

AFA does review apps once complete prior to noms. This is how they determine the LOA's and they produce the WCS (as soon as the file is complete it will be brought before the next board for consideration). After the app is reviewed by the board it can get an LOA or be set for reconsideration as the process goes along. Once noms come in the apps with noms are looked at again and the ones without noms are set aside. As updates are made to an app it may be brought before the board again before the nom, depending on the significance of the added material, and the WCS is recomputed - potentially leading to an LOA etc...

Will applicants receive any information about they stand in the review process, or is it submit and hear nothing until March?

You won't typically know where in the process you are ... unless you get an LOA or appointment! As the admissions process moves along there are more and more applications reaching completion so they are getting busier (that's why people keep saying get your file finished as early as possible). You can be assured that admissions is diligently reviewing files every week. It is getting pretty late for LOAs since the MOCs turn in their slates no later than 1/31 but I have seen LOAs in December. With the holidays right around the corner I believe the boards are just about done meeting for the year - pretty sure this week will be their last meeting until January.

I received my LOA today! It is marked December 8th. I'm very surprised because I wasn't expecting one especially since I haven't even finished my app.

You can email your regional to find out if you have gone up for the board once you receive the nom. The board does break for Xmas so anything after this week will be shut down untill after the 1st of the yr.

Your packet will go up again when you hand them new info...i.e. SAT/ACT scores, GPA or new EC's. Very important to keep doing your best at school...you never know... that extra A may push your gpa up and your WCS.

You will start seeing alot appts come down from MOC's that handed in their list already. DON'T FRET. ALot can happen and you might still get in.

I.E. Luigi's DS was offered USAFA and USCGA, he took USCGA, that meant the appt went to the next on the list.

Just because one of your Appt sources list came out, doesn't mean that the other has everyone done on their slate and you still might get in from that way.
You also could be put in the national pool.
Just realize the AFA is building a jigsaw puzzle and their trying to fit in every piece they can without knowing what the pic looks like. It takes a long time to do it.
Until then enjoy your holiday break and keep striving!

Sorry for asking so many questions! I really appreciate the help I have received thus far. But anyway...

Where is my regional listed? On my personal candidate page I see my USAFA Counselor and ALO listed. Are one of these considered my regional? Also, is the counselor the person to contact about updating my resume? I'd like to update my status with more information about some political volunteering I did from Aug-Nov, selection as president of a club, and addition of another varsity letter.
