Cgs 2531

How bad is CGS 2531?

Ratemyprofessor's reviews are pretty harsh on it, but for those on CC that have taken it, does it deserve the criticism?

Also, how is Rosemary Desimone as a professor?

I heard it was easy, but I guess its person dependent.

It's really tedious a class. You have to do four tutorials which are painstaking and take 3-5 hours each and take exams which you have to analyze every last detail of operation of the software program.

You most likely won't have Rosemary "Rory" as your primary teacher for the class. She usually teaches one section, but there are a lot of TAs that teach the others as well. I would say it's more time consuming than difficult, but definitely not one of the more difficult courses I've taken.

Thanks for the input. I have to take the class regardless for my economics major but I just wanted to have an idea of its difficulty in order to fit it into a semester.

Yeah I have to take it too for finance, guess I'll see you there.

That class was such a pain during fall '07. All the freshmen had '07 word/ Vista windows and the manual was designed for '03 word, XP windows.

My TA sucked. He would teach us one thing during lecture, then would quiz on us on that subject, and change the answer. Later, he would recant "Oh, I was wrong" even though he specifically told us the answer was "blah blah this" during class and yet still marked us incorrect on the quiz.

Go to the Pit for help and maybe do tutoring zone.

Oh and don't take calc 2233 and macro econ. at the same time with CGS. All the exam dates conflict! You'll end you up taking your marco exam in the morning, Calc at 6:30 p.m., CGS at 8:30 p.m. Or the professor may reschedule the makeup calc exam for the following day.

Do they charge for tutoring? How does the tutoring system work?

Is having a mac going to be a problem for this class? I'm going to have 2008 office for mac which has word and everything.

I had a mac with microsoft office, and it was no problem

oh good that makes me feel much better.

The pit is where the TA's help you with your tutorials or any questions. It's free. Tutoring Zone is not affiliated with UF. You pay $15 (?) or $20 (I forget) for a three hour session and they give you the red tutoring zone packets with a crib sheet.

For CGS2531, DO NOT buy the textbooks. You have to buy the Faulkner Press software (non-returnable). I would recommend just buying that. The Pit is in the CISE building where you can get help on your tutorials. The class is tedious because of the tutorials but its not that bad. Do not have the TA Vishak. He can't speak English. Jeff and Nick are pretty good.

Thanks for the advice danny
