Hey CCers. My mom has connections at BU and she called them today and found out that i have been accepted to the college of general studies. dont get me wrong, i am very excited. i just want some more information. do you have to take some specific cgs courses the first two years, or can you take other classes as well? can you minor in something while in cgs, or do you have to wait until you transfer out? answers to those questions would be very helpful, but really, any information you can give me would be great.
hey jPod, we might be classmates next year!

howwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

what? i dont understand...

Go to their website - here. The About CGS link has the info you need about the program.

can your mom call to see if I got accepted?...lol

how doews your mom have connections

thanks lergnom! and my moms connections are a long story that i am not going to go into. i just want some information.

i'm in cgs

you have to take all cgs courses your fresh first sem, then second sem you can take a cas course; as a soph you can take i think two electives from cas, and i don't remember the last sem. (i'm only a freshman). if you go to cgs, you really don't have a lot of wiggle room, you have to know your major, and if you plan to major minor, you have to take summer courses.

but is it worth it though, to end up with a BU degree? because im thinking that it is. because once you get to junior year, its the same as everyone else, right?

Irishdarling, if you don't mind me asking, what were your stats?

well, i think it's worth it. sometimes, i want to kill myself for thinking so because i'm so boooooreeed in cgs, but the material is really not that bad. the curriculum is actually HARDER than the material for cas kids, and our grades are a bit inflated because you need a 2.5 i believe, to get out. cgs kids leave with a lot more life skills i think. it's all reading-writing based, and you'll need that wherever you go. i think it's definitely worth it if you plan to go into comm (2nd in the nation), smg (very very good hook ups with alums, a job, career), or biomed (8th in the nation).

thanks, thats some really great info, but i do plan on going into cas, so its still worth it right?

and theses are my stats:
SATs: they are low, deffinetly not my hook
v:580 m:550 w:580
SATIIs lit:580 span:550

all As and Bs throughout highschool

lots of extracurriculars (ie...chorus, select chorus, plays, musicals, voice lessons, NHS, irish dance, irish dance teacher etc.)

awesome recs and essays.

PS any more information from a students perspective would be great, since BU is probably where i willl end up, i really want to know the ins and outs of cgs, preferably what they dont tell you on the website.

i think so. you sound like me last year lol bu was my first choice (comm) but when i got accepted into cgs, i was a bit skeptical. i think it's worth it, sacrifices to get where you have to go. `=)

thanks so much!

thanks for the stats. i have almost the exact same test scores (i don't test well) and a 3.83(unweighted)/4.02(weighted) GPA. i hope i get in.

Woot. Same exact SAT Math and Reading scores. My writing is a bit better.

You've got me on the GPA but I think I'm set with all my EC's!

which school did you apply to?

Same one. CGS.

I've gotten some PMs about my EC's - so to let everyone know go check out www.staylazy.net
