<p>White Male applying for Electrical Engineering, Regular Decision</p>

<p>Rank: 12/81 (15%)
GPA: 3.81/4.00 UW
ACT Composite: 35, first try
Eng:34, Math:36, Rdg:35, Sci:33, Writ:8
National Merit Semi-Finalist</p>

<p>Took/am taking the most challenging courseload available, including AP Calc, AP Eng, Physics, and Bio II this year. My school is somewhat competitive--we consistently score around 10% above the national average on standardized tests. Still, I am very concerned that my GPA and class rank are too low.</p>

<p>I have yet to take the required SAT Subject Tests, but I feel well-prepared. I may re-take the ACT to attempt to improve my Eng and Sci. (I feel that I can boost both 1-2 points. Should I try?)</p>

<p>My lack of a solid hook in these ECs also worries me:</p>

<p>My recommendations accentuate character, leadership, teamwork, etc; and, despite my ACT Writing score, my essays are generally very good.</p>

<p>Your scores are on fire! If you retake the ACTs, you'll look silly, wasting your time raising a 35 to a 36. A 34 or over is excellent! :)</p>

<p>I think you have a pretty okay chance. I feel like you could have possibly done more engineer-mathy things, but that's the same with me lol.</p>

<p>Yes, you caught me. Haha, I usually treat it more as routine than as something to impress at this point, but my frame of reference obviously skews my perception.</p>

<p>Haha, yeah I get it, but I think that's impressive, honestly I think it's a great accomplishment to own a company as a high school senior; If I tried to do that I'd probably be selling like painted seashells on the side of the road haha!</p>

<p>Thank you very much. I know what you're saying about the ECs, but my inner nerd shows constantly in the things I do besides these activities. I'll try to make my essay say that, and I'll probably throw in a Nikola Tesla quote for good measure. Tesla is a god.</p>
