Chance a brown kid!

I got SAT scores/updated ECs since I posted my last thread and I figured I should repost...
I apologize in advance for my lack of formatting :P

GPA: 4.00 UW, I'm not sure how it is weighted

SUMMER ECs
Research assistant at the University of Pittsburgh Dept. of Cardiology (2008),

Selected to attend local seminar on international affairs sponsored by local World Affairs Council (2009)

Took a summer course in international relations at U. of Pitt, highest score in class (2009)

Worked in Allegheny County Executive's office- got to write/edit press releases, prepare letters and generally help out around the office (yep, that means coffee/clipping newspapers), I still go back from time to time (2009-present)

Taught chess for free to local elementary students

Was one of four local students selected to meet with and ask questions to Google CEO Eric Schmidt prior to the 2009 G-20 summit, I subsequently was interviewed by an NPR reporter

^Obviously, I haven't written essays yet, but I will try to incorporate this into an essay

Bottom line: decent grades/scores so far, ECs are nothing special

List of schools (anyone got any other suggestions?)- I am applying to mostly reach-ish schools. If I can't get into any, I can always go to Pitt, and I get to go for free because my father teaches there.

Princeton
Georgetown SFS
UChicago
UPenn
Columbia
Duke
Swarthmore
Johns Hopkins
UC Berkeley
Pittsburgh

Oh BTW, give me a link and I will chance back.

Very nice! You have a great chance with your extensive EC and your great SAT II tests. But like you told me you need to narrow your focus a touch (I see law, medicine, music, math, fencing).

Are you going to put the World Affairs Council things on your app? My school goes to those too (we actually just had one on globalization @ our school) but it’s really just whoever wants to attend (…or get out of school for a day  )

If I were you I would retake the SATs. (11.4% of people with your SAT score range get accepted just so you know) Thanks for chancing me!

Oh and if you don’t mind mr asking how did you get the cardiology research assistant at the University of Pittsburgh? I would love to do something like that this summer!!

^ that percentage was for pton btw

Thanks for the chance. Yeah, my interests have really changed. Originally, I though I was going down the typical Indian Premed/bio route, but I got interested in international relations and political science. I’m not too sure about the WAC thing, it was a summer program and there was an application process, but I doubt it was too competitive.

The research position came from talking to one of my neighbors, who is a cardiologist with UPMC. He wasn’t specifically in research, but he gave me contact information for one of his colleagues. If you don’t know anyone, just send random emails to professors asking about a summer position or try to talk to any doctors/scientists people you know to put in a good word.

And thanks for the advice about the SAT. That puts things into perspective, especially for Princeton.

Wow. Excellent. Impressive!

Your summer ECs are great and on track for sure. Your SAT IIs are amazing. I think you know that your school year ECs are a little lacking, but they are still FINE.

I think you are competitive for any school you apply to. Very competitive. You seem well rounded and down to earth.

I’m glad I read this, it made my day!

I think you should take the Mathematics Level II SAT II. It will look pretty impressive to have 800s on math and science, and colleges also want to know that you are good at math.

Okay, thanks. Anyone else (esp. about Math II/ECs)?
