Berkeley, UCLA: Match (if you aren’t going for a competative major, but if you wrote an essay about teaching yourself to program, then I’m assuming you applied for computer science. Your chances will be a little bit less then.)
UCSD: Low Match
Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, Scripps: Match to High Match
USC: Match
Occidental: Safety
safeties - Cal Poly, UCSB, Davis

I’m shocked at all the people who say CMC, Berkeley, and Pomona are matches. You have almost no extracurriculars. And it’s obvious you tried to cover it up by panning it as “subjective”. You had better hope you’re as good as you claim to be in your sports, because that’s all you have.

With a 4.0/4.4 and 2200, and being a D1 recruit, I’d say

Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD–match
Pomona, Claremont McKenna, Pitzer, Scripps–likely you’ll get into at least one
USC–match
Occidental–don’t know
Cal Poly, UCSB, Davis–safeties, definitely

@STHeart: OP has plenty of, I’m guessing 2-4, sports. Sports take up a substantial amount of hours in a week, especially being a D1 recruit. This, along with his commitment to his clubs and leadership group, makes him a fine candidate for schools like Berkeley I believe.

thanks everyone and ST for your honest opinion. I know I don’t have much ECs and to explain that (not as an excuse) I spent A LOT of time with my main sport, basketball, because my dream as a child and early high schooler was to be recruited to a university to play. but now that I’m coming to terms with the fact that it’s not as easy to achieve as I thought, I realize I faulted. I was hoping to touch on all of this in my basketball essay.

I play basketball and do track and XC. I could be a recruit for both by the end of this year. I’d say there’s a 70% chance. even if I’m not, scodesario’s right. basketball takes up 3-5 hours a day including weekends. add >3 hrs of homework and I hardly have time to sleep, let alone do even more Extra Curriculars…

Aww I’m really sorry about my super harsh post I feel terrible now. You’re right, sports are a big priority and commitment, and if you really are a recruit, you’ll do amazing. I’m sorry

Publics-Spot on Match (Start packing)
Privates-Including UCB-SAT a tad low, and weak EC’s. It’s going to be a reach. I think USC & Occidental will be a yes. The others -Flip a coin. GL

Fellow Californian here! I’ll try to chance you?

The UCS should be pretty solid. Although both pretty competitive, you probably have a shot at UCLA and Berkeley. I think they would be “lower reaches.”

UCLA I don’t really know much about but should be OK. UC Berkeley, I don’t know what they really look for, but I heard they give out supplement forms to those who a) have disability b) talent or c) iffy grades that may have special circumstances. Sorry…

UCSD, though, should be a match. First, it’s a D2, so you could be pretty competitive for their athletics (and maybe more $$?). Also, your GPA is good and not sure how much else they look at.

The safeties are pretty safe. I would be shocked if you didn’t get in.

USC, since it has a reputation as a sports school, may be interested in you. Again, I’m not really sure with this school, but I have a feeling your sports will help you.

The Claremonts are a reach for everyone, even Pitzer and Scripps these days, but especially Claremont McKenna and Pomona. I don’t know anything about Occidental.

So in summary, this is what I think:
Claremont McKenna and Pomona: Higher reaches
Scripps and Pitzer: Reaches
UC Berkeley and UCLA: High Match
USC and Occidental: Match
UCSD: Low Match
Safeties: Very Safe
