you seem to have a pretty good shot at getting in, and don't worry most people are a bit intimidated by everyone else's stats. but the belief that participation in one of columbia's summer programs will guarantee admission is a hugeeeeeee misconception. while the programs look good on an application, they certainly don't come close to being an automatic in.

thanks everyone. I know that the summer programs don't equal automatic admission, I just did them for my enjoyment and I had an amazing time taking those classes.

In all honesty, although I usually only skim these threads, I have rarely seen a better profile.

...short of Intel Science Fair winners and 18-year-old millionaire entrepreneurs and olympic athletes, I guess. Your ECs scream focused passion. Brush up the interviewing a little and make sure your essay is absolutely unique to you.

Thanks a lot Denzera. I have had some concerns about my ECs being too single focused, for lack of a better word. I guess my passion for a few activities will be better in the long run than dozens of meaningless clubs. As of now, I have no been offered and interview, but I hope I will have the chance to get one.

Oh, and to add to my profile, my ACT came in and its 33 on the dot!

im sorry to bump my thread, but I have a question. Will an 87 in advanced physics from junior year ruin my chances for ED. I had a 95 and 93 in advanced chemistry and math respectively. In addition, I want to major in chemistry most likely. Am I ruined with my B+ physics grade for SEAS?

nothing on its own ruins anyone's chances, unless it's a felony conviction. it's always a combination of things, a trend.

I had a B- in Biology and a C+ one year in French. My GPA was very weak for Columbia's applicant pool (3.3 unweighted). I've gone into the full story elsewhere so I won't make everyone read it again, but the point is, you can make your case that you're the kind of person they want, and they'll take you. In a committee discussion, the question will be, does that grade show a lack of aptitude or work ethic on your part? In my view, it's clear from the rest of your profile that it does not.

Focus instead on showing how you'll stand out, how you'll make the community at Columbia a better place.

thanks denzera for your feedback once again. its sometimes hard to look at the bigger picture rather than focusing on the smallest details in my application.
