Throughout my high school career i have taken the hardest classes available at both high schools i attended (switched after freshmen year) but i am scared to death because my school does not offer any AP classes until senior year (currently taking 4 and expect to get 5's on all of the test)

Im also scared because i believe my EC's are extremely weak

EC's

-JV basketball (9)
-JV/Varsity golf (9-12) did very well at state this year (will this help me?)

O sorry i forgot my Test scores

ACT: 32
SAT: 2250 (750,750,750)

I don’t understand how you are clueless. Your stats are obviously decent enough for many of those schools above. Exaggerating your situation just fuels the negetive stereotype that College Confidential is a place were arrogant people make the other 99.9% of high school students feel inferior.

Well I’m sorry if I made anybody feel bad but I promise you that my intentions were not to brag I honestly don’t know anything about college admission. Also I thought my stats were very weak compared to others I have seen on this site. But honestly I am clueless when it comes to the whole college thing. I have never looked at Colleges before now and I found this site randomly about a week ago. Then I started reading some of these threads where amazing students were given no shot at going to certain schools which scared the crap out of me because I started thinking maybe I don’t have a shot. Which is why I made this tread to find out If I have a chance at these schools.

The first thing you need to know is to not compare yourself to the people on CC, they are not a very good sample of the real world. Most people would be thrilled to have your stats. Look up the class profiles for colleges you’re interested in. You have a shot at any school you’re interested in (though practically speaking, I’m not sure anyone has a “good” shot at any of the very top schools).

If you’re truly “clueless” when it comes to college admissions, then CC is absolutely NOT the place to start. You will wind up with a very skewed sample. Most applicants do not have perfect scores with research experience, five published books, an international charity, and start on the varisty basketball team since freshman year. It is just not reasonable to assume that if you aren’t as mind-boggling as these kids, you don’t stand a chance. Start with the hardcore facts (stats offered by the colleges, guidebooks, etc.) and see where you stand then.

Also, colleges do not look down on you if you’re school did not offer APs so long as you took the most challenging classes it DID offer (that’s why they look at your school profile).

And you’re ECs are not weak. They’re stronger than mine, and I’m still applying to some top schools…don’t freak.

Sorry I didn’t really chance you, but I hope it at least helped you relax a little.

Thank you very much! That does release some of the stress I have had this week since finding this site. I knew that the people with those amazing stats/EC’s did not represent the majority but it just freaked me out when people said that they had a low shot at getting into a top 10 college. I mean how much better could someone get! Well anyways thank you and please if anybody could chance we it’s greatly appreciated!

anyone?? Thanks in advance!

could i please get someone to chance me?

Im not giving up!!!

Thanks for the responce! Unfortunitly Illinois is my last pick does anybody know about the other schools? Again thanks!

Back to the top… Can I just get a few people to chance me please!

im probably not as experienced as the other members but im assuming you know you are in at UT, and your chances at Rice are good, i just interviewed with them and the like to see focus in your ECs so if there is a way you can show that, do so prior to applying.

None of the schools that i know of look unrealistic, you have great chances at all

And if i were you i would only send in the SAT, the 2250 is much higher than the 32

good luck

Thank you. I have always thought my EC’s were not that strong because i dont have any leadership roles but I have joined all the clubs that are interesting to me except Spanish club which i hate (girlfriend).

But thanks for the advice on the SAT! I just took the ACT for the second time two days ago I think i did very well probably increased my score (feel very very good about it).

Thanks for the post and please everyone keep them coming!

you’ll probalby get in to all
the one you might get rejected from is u chicago
the other first 5 are tough but ull most likely get in

Major? Some schools may be impacted to certain majors and may skew your chances but I highly doubt it. But still always good to know…

my plan is to do premed
