I’d say you have fairly good chances. A 2400 on the SAT is REALLY hard to do, and not to be racially insensitive, but you would bring more diversity to these campuses. You are very strong in math and colleges seem to like that continuity.

I’m a junior too, so would you mind chancing me back? Thanks :D

I think you should include Oxford too. They require at least 2300 SAT 1.Take 3 subject tests,it gives your app more weight as you will be compared to students who take harder courses like Further Mathematics.

@BigThink I have not seen anything about sending Subject Test scores to UK schools. BC Calc + Stats ≈ Further Maths. Many people in UK schools do mathematics for four years now. I would really rather have Harvard, Princeton, or MIT than Cambridge. I just have a feeling that when I don’t get into any of those, Cambridge won’t necessarily be closed off from me.

@RejectedUsername Higher scores don’t matter very much once you get into the higher end of the range, though.

@Okay,Oxford/Cambridge undergrad prospectus says they are considered. But go for Oxford.Do you know that one can not apply to Cambrg and Oxfrd at the same time. How did you get a perfect SAT score?

^^ I know about being able to apply for only one. I have seen the score’s being considered for certain courses and colleges, but not from school in general. I am really not so sure even if I will apply at all at this point, so I really don’t even want to decide on choosing anything. I would definitely choose Cambridge over Oxford because I would like to study mathematics, but all of that is just some ridiculous idea I came up with upon reexamining admissions criteria, not a serious decision to apply.

As far as how I got a 2400, I took around five practice tests and doing a few hours of “drills” on the website Shmoop, which my school gave me a subscription to. Getting a perfect score is not hard. It’s just that most people know better than to try to get a 2400, but some people get lucky. If you know the words, can write formulaically if you need to, and can do math, you can get a 2400. The SAT is not a good admissions criterion.

I got my SAT scores today.I got Mat620/Cr570/Wr550 and i cried.i am not a native English speaker,i stay in Zimbabwe.I think i am going to write again.I already have a secure place at the University of Cape Town,it is the best in Africa and Cambridge too,but i cant afford the it.I had only done a single practice test.

Harvard - reach
Yale - reach
Princeton - reach
MIT - reach
Cambridge - high reach
Cornell - match
UPenn - low reach
University of Chicago - high match/low reach
UF - Safety

^ I don’t understand either. Maybe he is mad because I made this thread without actually having subject test scores, or he doesn’t believe that someone with my garbage schedule and ECs had a 2400, so he doesn’t think that I have gotten my scores back yet.

Cambridge requires test scores based on declared major. They usually want 3 to 4 A levels with grades of A, A, A, A. Having taken both A levels and AP, a 5 is much easier to get than an A (80% of marks) and an A* (90% of marks). Cambridge likely expects 7 to 10 fives on AP exams. And maybe a 4 here or there. But definitely 5’s in reference to your major. UK universities care way more about exam scores and grades than about subjective and superfluous things like ECs and personality that so many US universities go crazy over

I think you have a pretty good chance. You’re a URM, great test scores, and your writing, even the messy things written on this chance thread, show that you do have a great mind in there. Though since you do seem so smart, I wonder what you do with your time besides score and your somewhat scattered ECs. You do have an interest in Math, but what separates your interest from every other prospective math major? What do you want out of these schools? Even when choosing “safeties”(which is an ugly anyway) try to think of what changes you can cause on the campus.
