chance a homeschooler

Woo. Hopefully this isn't too hard to chance.

Basic Info

Gender: Male
Race: Caucasian
Location: Central Virginia, just south of Richmond
School Type: Homeschooled
Prospective Major: Undecided, most likely something english related. I want to be a journalist. I do not plan on majoring in journalism however.

Stats

SATs: 740 CR, 670 M, 610 W
SAT Subject Tests: Will take the US History and Literature tests in december. I expect 700+ on both.
GPA: Don't have an exact GPA due to being homeschooled. If I averaged all courses in which I actually sat in front of a teacher/professor I would have a B+. I'm mostly self-taught.
Class Rank: 1/1
Courses: I will have taken Precalc I and II (freshman level math courses), English 111, English 112, Creative Writing (doubt the last one means anything), freshman level Psych, freshman level Biology with lab (I did Chem through a co-op with other homeschoolers), freshman level US History, and Intro to Philosophy all at John Tyler Community College. I will have 25 college credits. These are just the more recent courses and the ones that aren't laundry list items I guess you could say. 3 years of foreign language.

Subjective Stuff

Hooks: First-gen college student, homeschooled (if that even counts for anything).
ECs: Soccer, part-time job, community service, involvement with local youth group in choir and drama.
Essays: I don't like being arrogant but they'll be AT LEAST good, if not fantastic.
Recs: Good.

The Schools

I will be applying for financial aid, hopefully that doesn't hurt me too much.

Be kind lol. Thanks for posting.

Hey! So as a current college student from right around your area in VA, I’ll chance you with my experience (we applied to some of the same).

U of Virginia- I applied here last year with an uw 4.0 and an SAT of 2130 (cr 800, m-630, writing-700). I did not get in.
William and Mary- I was waitlisted. For both UVA and WM, being a first gen college student might help, but for my peers who were also first gen and matched your stats, they found that they were still rejected.
Virginia Commonwealth U- This is a match, and probably a definite.
James Madison U- Also a match, I’m sure you’ll get in.
George Mason- match to safety, you’ll definitely get in

Out of state:
Bard- match to reach, better chance here than Sarah Lawrence.
Oberlin-Reach
Brown (wayyy reach but it’s whatev)- haha, as you said, reach.
Sarah Lawrence- As long as your application shows that you’re a unique, wordly individual you should have a chance. Make sure to interview, they were big on that when I applied. This might be a reach. However, being male is good for this college because of the disparity of male vs female. Also make sure to tour- SLC was one of my top four after acceptances, but visiting made me really dislike it. They don’t care about SATs and are HUGE on essays, so if you’re a good writer that will increase your chances.
Vassar- This will also be a reach, less so than Oberlin and Brown. So in between SLC and Oberlin, I’d say.

Good luck! I hope this helped somewhat.

yeah, it def helped. cross my fingers for uva, it’s my number one choice instate school.
