Chance a hopeful junior applying to colleges?

I am a rising junior that is considering applying to colleges this year. If everything works out with the high school I go to and their requirements, I would like to go to college due to personal circumstances.

Chances on getting into UC Davis, UC Berkeley, Stanford, Yale, and UC San Diego?
Note: I do not have any real safeties because even if I got in, I wouldn't go to them. If I don't get into the previously mentioned colleges, then I will always be able to apply again senior year.

You’re obviously from California, and it’s 1:20am. I suggest you stop stressing about it. If you’re actually UC eligible, you have a great shot at all of the UC schools you mentioned. As for Yale and Stanford, you have a decent shot.

Make sure you have a-g, though.

@solostish‌ Haha, I was actually doing some other stuff and decided to put this up then. No stress here :slight_smile:
Thanks for the chance.

Just curious…is the second place in the state chess championship scholastic or overall?

Yale and Stanford? that’s biting off more than you can chew. Especially because you’re a junior, they won’t really think that you’re prepared enough as millions of other applicants.

UC’s too. They apply. Maybe you might have a slim chance, but don’t expect much/

You have an interesting situation applying to colleges junior year. However you should know that you will be compared to other seniors across the country who have had 4 years to develop in what you have done in three. Needless to say, for schools like Yale or Stanford that will be even more competitive and could put you at a disadvantage. On the common app it asks you to list activities that have occured after high school started, I’m not sure if your accomplishments in chess would account as it is outside of high school, but possibly double check with the school. Take your SAT/ACTs and then come back, because it is very difficult to gauge someone who has not completed all the requirements for admissions yet.

In addition, make sure you have all the generally recommended courses as well for college admissions - such as consistency with math, english, science, and world language - challenging yourself at the highest levels and taking them throughout all your years.

@DiscipulusBonus‌ What do you mean by scholastic/overall? I got it at a scholastic tournament, if that’s what you’re asking.

@alfawarlord‌ Thanks.

@shawnspencer‌ Yeah, I know that I won’t be showing as much as others, but I really do not wish to stay in my house for another year, so I have to deal with what I have and hope for the best or just deal with it for an extra year. Thank you also for answering the question I had about ECs before high school.

@collegesplease: I was wondering if you were second among high schoolers or adults.
