<p>Hello everyone! I go to a highly ranked private preparatory school in California. I hope to be a cognitive science major with a specialization in Computation. </p>

<p>PROFILE
Grade: Junior
Race: Carribean-African-American (Other)
Technically a 2.5nd generation immigrant, long story (My grandmother (1st generation) brought my dad here from Trinidad when he was very young, he is a naturalized citizen)</p>

<p>ACADEMICS/TEST SCORES</p>

<p>GPA UW: 3.5
GPA W: 4.04
(These will both go up after this school year, especially my WGPA.)

<p>Will have EXCELLENT recommendations from my Comparative Politics (already taught me in US History as well, where I aced the AP without taking the AP class), and AP Biology Teacher (also neurobiology teacher).</p>

<p>UCSC, UCSD, and University of Chicago you are definetly in.
The only thing holding you back for UCB and UCLA is that your GPA is a tadbit low. So for those two I would say a High Reach.</p>

<p>And as for the rest of the schools I can’t help you cause I don’t know much about them sorry !:(</p>

U Chicago is much harder to get into that UCLA.</p>

<p>Hard to tell tbh, cuz you know how low GPA high test scores can be.
I would not put you into U chicago, MIT, John Hopkins, UC Berkley (though you are competative at all of them with that test and good ECs).</p>

<p>You got this. No need to depend on numbers(my own saying). You need to have that attitude to win it and get in! your Gpa is not “low”</p>

<p>Don’t let anyone tell you that (unless it is a very experienced and highly successful college counselor)</p>

<p>You can get into all of those colleges in my opinion. You just have to want it. No one can really “chance” you.</p>

<p>You SAT Scores are great. You dont need no 2400, 2000 and above is hard to accomplish and shows how intelligent you are.</p>

<p>Your classes and your ECS are fine.You are joining things you are interested in, not things that will"get you into college" I hope.</p>

<p>Bad gpa can demolish stats, except if you are a URM (which you maybe), that will definitely help you get into more of those schools.</p>

<p>You two are wrong. Its not false confidence. Everything is not about numbers. Thats why you kids on CC worry so much because your so stuck up on the fact of numbers. HOWEVER, I am not saying don’t do you best. Not that at all. AND his Gpa is not even that bad…your acting like he has a 2.8 or something. His GPA is just great.</p>

<p>UGH! this URM crap gets on my nerves. Thats not the only way to get into college for a minority.</p>

<p>Essays are important too. I don’t know why everyone always ignores them in these threads.</p>

<p>To the OP: You’ll probably get shut out of the more selective UCs because their admissions are heavily reliant on numbers and your GPA is, well, bad. MIT, UChicago, CMU and JHU are also massive reaches, imo. HOWEVER, a good essay/supplement goes a long way. Calibrate your list by removing a couple of reaches and adding a few matches, get good scores on the APs and SAT subject tests, and write amazing essays. There’s nothing else to be done at this point.</p>

<p>OP, come back with your UC GPA in June. That seems to be the rate limiting step for the UC’s, but UCSC shouldn’t be a problem, even with with a UCGPA of 3.5+.</p>
