Hello everyone! My grades aren't too great because I transferred from a ghetto school district to a richer school district. It's still pretty hard to adjust to the higher workload. I also have a minor learning disorder, but it shouldn't matter anyway.

Background:
State: Michigan
South/East Asian
First gen college student

11th: 3.6
SAT: 2150 (retaking this summer)
ACT: 31 (retaking this summer)

APs:
APUSH - 5
AP Micro/Macro - 5

ECs:
Created diversity clubs to increase school diversity
Key Club Treasurer (10, 11)
DECA (11)
Varsity Track & Field (10, 11)

My best EC: I started with a cheap cellphone and sold it for $20 on Craigslist. I sold everything I had. That $20 changed into $5,000 in two years with the help of smart money decisions and good financial investments. I donated 80% of the money for cancer research. It barely helped the research, but I'm glad I did it anyway. Dare I say it, it was actually fun!

Awards:
Congressional recognition
Nationally ranked Track & Field athlete
1st place State Economics Championship

NW isn't my number one school, but I'm applying anyway. You can make a rough guess what my major is.

I’m sorry, but I would say this is definitely a very big reach for you. You should still apply, because you never know, but just be prepared.

Are you planning on continuing track and field in college? If you’re nationally ranked, you must put a lot of effort into it, right? Does it matter to you that NU doesn’t have a track team?

Like I said, Northwestern isn’t my number one. One of the reasons is due to the low focus of the business/finance department in undergraduate. Despite not having a track team, which I’m actually fine with, I really enjoyed the atmosphere when I visited the campus last month. Plus, they still have Economics. This is why I’m applying. If it doesn’t work out, then I’ll just attend UMich or USC. Who knows, maybe I’ll go to NW’s graduate business school ;)

Yes, NU would be a reach, but you know that. On the other hand, you have an interesting story to tell and you may catch the imagination of someone at admissions. On the other hand, if you don’t apply, I can guaranty you won’t get in.

Re Business - those who are business oriented find a way. Be it Economics, the Kellogg certificate, or something like organizational change in SESP. There are a lot of ways to do this.
