UNC: Low match (in-state)/High match (OOS)

Duke, Cornell: Low reach

how is a 3.8 a low GPA even for those schools?

An asian girl at my school was NHS president, tennis captain, swimming captain, and editor for the school newspaper with 4.0 GPA and 2280 SAT. She got into Duke. So I think you should have a decent shot at Duke esp with a legacy. Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1508365-wharton-cornell-ed-others.html

If you are a legacy at Duke, you should consider applying ED. It will boost your chances.
Also, I think you’re being relatively unambitious with your list. Other than Duke and Cornell, none of the colleges you are applying to really stand out. If you choose to apply ED to Duke, you should also consider applying RD to Penn and Dartmouth in addition to Cornell. Cast a wide net.

Duke is a Low Reach/ High Match, Notre Dame is a High Match, and Cornell is a Low Reach. The rest are matches.

Chance me back?

I’m intrigued by your comment that my list is unambitious. What universities would you suggest instead of my list? I’ve always assumed I’m a tier or two below the Ivies, and I know applying to Ivies is a bit of a crapshoot anyways. I’d be afraid to apply to many in thoughts of wasted money if/when I’m denied admission. Do you think I have a legitimate chance at any Ivy league?

As for ED with Duke, I’m a little scared to do anything so binding. I haven’t visited the campus yet for starters, I’m just basing my liking for it on my mom’s recommendations, what I’ve read, and the general prestige. My family could use quite a bit of financial aid but makes a bit too much to qualify for significant aid. That’s my primary hesitation in applying ED, is being forced into paying too much money. Does ED really help that much in admission chances?

Duke: Low reach (just a stretch)
UVA: Match
Notre Dame: match
UMI: High Match
Cornell: High match
NEU: Match
BC: Match
UNC: Low match instate, high match OOS

Cornell is an ivy and Duke is harder to get into than both Cornell and Penn. So you are applying to top tier schools anyway. Might as well apply to a few more. ED will definitely be really helpful, but you should only do it once you’ve visited the school in question. Students who apply ED receive the same amount of aid as those who apply RD as far as I know.

Just seeing this now… But it’s too late to edit. I meant that cornell is a low reach. My bad

Haha no worries I’m sure I realized that as well! Trust me, I’m not naive enough to believe I’m close to having Cornell as a low match haha
