-I know my S2 grades of sophomore year were rocky, and there is a reason for this. This was the semester I "came out of the closet" at my school and it did not go over smoothly with students along with my family.. I know I take full responsibility for my grades, but this will be explained to the schools I apply to..

Hook: As I've stated before I think it is to my advantage to be a first generation college student and American. I also think that it helps that I'm gay (not for admissions reasons specifically, but to help "diversify" the student body)

Think I have a chance?

anyone?

10char

Id say youre in for sure with a good chance at scholarship money.

what was your esperience with coming out as far as reactions from friends/family? why did this affect your grades? did you get picked on by strangers in the hallways, etc?

Im just wondering because this is something im a junior debating coming out now or waiting til college

I'll send you a PM.

anyone else?

I'd say you're in decent shape. Grades, coursework and ECs are good. The ACT score is a bit low but is certainly not a disqualification. I don't see a "hook" in your profile, but then again I don't think you need one! Good luck.

I think you have a good chance. I just got in with 15 k a year so I think you’ll do fine

I agree that you have a good shot at getting in. It would be useful to know your GPA unweighted, because your class rank is quite high. I also think that your very understandable reason for the rocky sophomore year will carry weight. Any adcom would, I think, have some understanding of how difficult if not downright traumatic that time must have been. But actually when I look at your grades, they are pretty good except for geometry, and then Spanish the next year. One bad grade and one mediocre one are not going to hurt you, the admissions people are smarter than that. NewHope is right that the ACT is low compared to your other accomplishments, but only one point lower than the Tulane middle 50% range of 29-32. This means of course there are 25% of the students that have your score or lower. I wouldn’t count on merit scholarship money though. I think your stats might not be quite good enough for that this year because it is so much more competitive. But you never know, they have surprised me before.

I don’t think the OP is around anymore as this thread is over a year old.

LOL you are right. Totally missed that. Thanks!

Funny! Wonder if they ever got in?!?!?!
