Chance a Minnesotan for GEORGETOWN!

I know these threads are silly, but my parents think I can get into any school I want, but in comparison to the amazing students on CC, I'm not so sure! I'd really love to know what everyone else thinks.

I am rising junior in a great high school from Minnesota. I'd like to study anything business related, especially finance, accounting, economics, or applied mathematics.

Counting only freshman/sophomore grades:
UW GPA: 3.96
W GPA: 4.11
W Class Rank: 10/296 (~top 3-4%)

ACT: composite: 30 (31 E, 32 M, 30 R, 25 S)
I took this once without any prep at the end of my sophomore year. I've been practicing a little bit the reading and science sections and I've been averaging a 33 R and 31 S!

Course Load: I've been enrolled in the most rigorous classes available. The only AP offered to underclassmen was AP US History (4).

-Junior Year (and first quarter grade)
AP Language (A)
AP Literature (A)
AP US Government (A)
AP Statistics (A-)
Pre-Calculus (required and advanced) (A)
French III (A)
Intro to Business/Sales and Marketing (A)
Physics (A-)

-Prospective Senior Year

French IV
Accounting
(unknown other class)

Thank you Avon! That’s really helpful. Anything else you can comment on?

I’d raise my ACT if I were you.

That’s a good start on the ACT, but I’d aim for a few points higher (It seems you already are.) You look like a pretty well-rounded invidividual, but it’s really too early to accurately determine what school you would be a good fit at and what your chances of acceptance at Georgetown are.

Thank you wizkid! I’m really hoping for a 32. Do you think that would make me good on the test portion of the app?

I agree with wizkid94 that you should be in the 32 - 24 ACT range to be more comfortable. Also, it often comes down to the essays and recommendation letters as the stats are so close for nearly all qualified applicants.

Also - check out the info in this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/georgetown-university/1241767-insight-into-admissions-process.html</a></p>

That’s what I’m reaching for. I think improving at least 2 points is pretty realistic. I understand that the whole process is dependent on more personal parts, like the recs and essays, but I just wanted to make sure that I was doing what I could now, as a junior.

I’ll think about what teachers I should ask to give me recs and what things I’d like to highlight in my essays, of course!

Thanks Avon!

Anything else anyone?

I think a 32 or higher would give you a much better shot at UPenn, Cornell, Georgetown, UChicago etc. I got a 31 at the end of my Junior year and a 34 senior year, so a 33+ for you is no way out of reach. But make sure you enjoy your last two years of high school. This college thing is way overblown… You’ll end up where you need to be.

Great! Hearing success stories like that are pretty encouraging.

How do my ECs seem?

Your E.C.'s are good.

Any other opinions?

Bump! 10char

As a fellow Minnesotan currently studying at Georgetown, you’re going to want to bump your ACT to at least a 32. You have a good shot, but it’s competitive for everyone!

Thanks for you advice!

Considering this is about half a year old, I thought I should give some updates.

-Recently elected as Student Council President
-Will be Key Club President for next year, as well
-This summer, will be a counselor at a Special Olympics camp, attend the Experimental Economics Institute at Chapman University, be a selected leader at Minnesota Business Venture camp, a mission trip to New Orleans, a camp counselor for a week, and a t-ball coach throughout the summer for disabled children
-Planning on dropping AP Chemistry and Accounting, and taking AP Econ online and sociology/psychology instead
-UChicago will also be very high on my college list, too
-Taking ACT this June, and currently testing 31M, 34E, 34R, 30S on my PR1296 book, which is supposedly significantly more difficult than the actual test
-Taking SATIIs next September

Got a 32C ACT! 35E, 32M, 31R, 31S, 9W. Bump?

<a href=“CCChanceMe.pdf - Google Drive”>CCChanceMe.pdf - Google Drive; has my most up-to-date resume! I’d love some more input!
