Chance a potential Classics major? please? I'll be super grateful

I'LL CHANCE BACK IF YOU ASK ME TO :)

Okay so I'm a rising senior at a religious, all-boys HS in NY, and I'm trying to finalize my list of colleges. Right now it looks like:

-Columbia (ED)
-Princeton
-Wesleyan
-Haverford (maybe)
-Vassar
-Bard (EA)
-Sarah Lawrence
-Fordham
-Hunter College (Macaulay Honors program) (CUNY)
-SUNY Binghamton
-SUNY Geneseo

I'm generally looking to stay relatively close to NYC (like 3 hours max), and if you have any other suggestions I would be happy to check them out.

Okay, so I hate these threads, but I can't resist anymore :) THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Standardized Scores:
SAT- 1st) 2050 (740 W/ 650 M/ 660 CR)
2nd) 2220 (760 W/ 740 M/ 720 CR)
SAT II- haven't taken yet, but I'll predict:
-US: 740
-Latin: 720
-Physics: 680 (hopefully higher, but I'm being realistic)
AP-US History: 5

Classes:
My current weighted GPA is around a 102, but unweighted is probably like 97 (out of 100)
Rank: 1/~140

9th:
Rel 9Honors (req.)
Biology 9H
English 9H
World History 9H
Integrated Algebra 9H
Spanish I
Latin I
Gym

10th:
Religion 10H
Chem 10H
English 10H
World History 10H
Geometry 10H
Spanish II
Latin II
Health
Gym

11th:
Religion 11
Physics 11H
English 11H
AP US History (the only AP my school offers up to junior year)

12th:

AP Biology
AP Lit
AP Calc AB
AP Latin

So I know that it's not the most impressive curriculum, but it's by far the most challenging. Also, my friend and I were partly responsible for AP Calc and AP Latin getting added.

Other:
Gender: Male

Hooks- 1st generation college student, Classics major (?), parents are Irish immigrants (?)
Financial Aid- definitely need

All right so I know my application isn't as impressive as 99% of the others on this board, but I think it's okay. My intended major is going to be Classics, so I'm hoping that'll help me out a little bit. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING THIS. If you want me to chance you back just let me know :)

EDIT: woah this is kinda messy. Sorry!

-Columbia (ED)- low reach
-Princeton- mid to high reach
-Wesleyan- maybe low reach
-Haverford (maybe)- match
-Vassar- match
-Bard (EA)- safety
-Sarah Lawrence- match
-Fordham- match
-Hunter College (Macaulay Honors program) (CUNY)- match
-SUNY Binghamton- match
-SUNY Geneseo- match

I think that you’d have a competitive chance at Columbia because of 1st generation and ED.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1173642-new-member-chance-me-please.html</a> (I know this is an old thread…But, i’d appreciate a chance)

oh and I haven’t written my essay yet, but I have a couple of potential topics. It’s going to be pretty lighht hearted/quirky i think. And i’m a decent writer.

The other guy got it all wrong

Princeton: high reach
Colombia: high reach
Wesleyan: match
Fordham: safety
CUNY Hunter College: safety
SUNY Binghamton: safety
SUNY Geneseo: low match
Haverford: match
Vassar: match
Bard: match

I would also throw in NYU, but the school doesn’t give much in the way of aid.

Please chance back. My thread is “chance an incoming senior”

done! thanks both of you. anyone else?

@Blackops, I beg to differ. He has SAT scores well within the range of Columbia, he’s ranked at the top of his class (and thus is taking the hardest course-load possible), and has shown focus in ECs (rather than just having a laundry list). Moreover, 1st generation can be quite helpful in college admissions, especially with the Ivies (Columbia included). So, I’d argue that I didn’t get “it all wrong.”

^True. I didn’t notice first generation. Sorry.

I think right now a big portion of your acceptance chances may hinge on your SAT II performance, because the upper-end schools like Columbia and Princeton generally require at least 2 SAT II Subject Tests in their applications.

Princeton might be beyond your reach, unless you can throw in some stellar SAT II performances. However, I’m simply going by the numbers on their website, as I have never been too interested in Princeton.

Colombia will be difficult but you DO fall within their middle 50% with your test scores

I don’t know much about the rest, but I do know this at least:
SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Geneseo, Haverford are almost guaranteed acceptances for you. My school keeps a record of all students in the past 5 years who have been accepted or denied into each college they applied to as well as their test scores, and for these 3, your stats most certainly match up with most of those who were accepted.

@ayousef: thank you for keeping what little hope I have alive :)

@eskielover: thanks!

anyone else?

Columbia seems a match~chances me back please~Thanks~

@Allyson: Coumbia seems a MATCH?! Even if I got a 2350 on my SAT’s I don’t think Columbia would be a match

OP, just curious, any consideration of doing classics at an Irish university?

Princeton: high reach
Colombia: mid reach
CUNY Hunter College: safety
SUNY Binghamton: safety
SUNY Geneseo: low match
Haverford: match
Vassar: match

Sorry, I don’t know all of your colleges that well, but for the ones that I know, I gave you what I think your cahnces are  I think being a classics major/first generation will help you a lot, so good luck!

Columbia: ED low reach/high match, RD reach
Princeton: high reach
Wesleyan: match
Fordham: safety
CUNY Hunter College: safety
SUNY Binghamton: safety
SUNY Geneseo: safety
Haverford: safety
Vassar: match
Bard: match

@zapfino: I have, actually. When I went to Ireland last year I visited University College Dublin and Trinity College, and I liked them a lot, but I don’t think I could go. First off, even though my entire family lives over there (except for my parents, obviously), I would still have to pay the international student tuition, which, without financial aid, I most likely can’t afford. Plus, it’s a little too far away, and will get REALLY expensive flying back and forth. They are amazing colleges though.

Thanks TLOfan, you too! And thank you as well, shaheirunderdog!

Everywhere looks good. Columbia will be tough but possible ED, and Princeton will be even tougher. But I’m applying to both of them as well so I wish you the best!!

Thanks for chancing me!
-Columbia (ED) Low Reach
-Princeton High Reach (as for anyone)
-Wesleyan Match
-Haverford (maybe) Match
-Vassar Match
-Bard (EA) Match
-Sarah Lawrence I don’t know enough about this school.
I don’t know a whole lot about the other schools, but you should get in them from what I do know. Good luck.

@futureVpFinance: ahhhhhh if you get accepted to either school over me I definitely will not be happy! Good luck to you too though!

@dantheman: thanks a lot anyway. The schools you chanced me for are the most important ones anyway.

aaaaaaand I’m ready for more chances please :)
