butters1 is CRAZY. you have good (they aren’t going to hurt you) ECs, your SAT and GPA are(no matter what the cc ■■■■■■ think) WAY above average than even the average HYP candidate. I’d say your a lock on all the Cali schools, except stanford just because nobody can be a stanford lock haha, and all the ivies and stanford are high target schools. nice work!

Your app looks wonderful! But I’m going to have to agree with Butters. Just make sure your essays stand out!

Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback! Any more opinions?

Grades and SAT are amazing, but your Extra-curricular are lacking. Try do something to seperate you from the rest of the applicant pool.

Thanks! Any other opinions?

Another bump.

As many people have said, you have really good numbers. However, I would agree with others that your EC’s are slightly unfocused. Also, how does a simple textbook distribution for two days per year really affect you as a person? I’m very curious, but I s’pose you could write about it in essays. Otherwise, it’s probably better to hide that, because it may come off as being desperate…? See what people think about it.

But, like imasophomore said earlier, your hook will definitely be those near-perfect STATs and grades. I’m very jealous about your academic excellence. Hopefully, everything will work out for you.

Aside, just based on school rankings, why are you so eager to apply for UCLA with the potential boost from your “double legacy”, when you obviously deserve a better school like HYP? I would think you shouldn’t concentrate too much on UCLA, that’s what I’m suggesting.

That’s actually a really good point I hadn’t thought about. Maybe I should just omit it from the volunteering section on my application.

I love Southern California, my parents say great things about the school and the surrounding area, UCLA has a kick-ass mock trial team (won nationals this past year), etc. HYP is just too damn cold, but I’ll still apply.

wow that is amazing ! Getting perfect scores on the SAT? Seems like you have everything going for you! Everything is amazing, you have a good chance at all the schools (:

Asian Male from Southern California

HYPSMC: Reaches

3 Asian males from my HS with similar stat as yours (one with national recognition) got waitlisted or rejected from HYPSMC.

It is a good thing that you are applying to many top colleges.
Good luck to you!

What about U Chicago?

You are an incredible student with great EC’s, but, unfortunately, HYPS is a crapshoot for anyone. I know you may have heard this many times before, but no one is going to get anything other than a “reach” for HYPS.

And I know comparing stats is by no means a good indicator, but I will do it anyway, just to prove a point: in my school this year, one Chinese male got into Harvard. His stats were confined to the regional level, just as yours are, he got a slightly worse SAT score than you did (2340 or something like that?), and just about the same number of APs and 5’s. He was also the valedictorian of a fairly large class… So, what does this prove? You clearly have chance. You can’t do much more with your EC’s at this stage. No pressure - what is truly going to make or break you is your essay. I suggest starting soon, if not now.

Thanks! More opinions would be appreciated!

Asian male from SoCal will be disadvantageous. And you seem to not stray from the piano/violin-playing asian stereotype. And though you may be good, I’m sure piano/violin-playing asians are a dime a dozen (not to be rude). Music ECs will probably not get you too far. The only other thing you have shown commitment to is Mock Trial…and that’s mainly it. So yeah, ECs are def. on the weaker side…stuff that HYPSM wouldn’t hesitate to reject even w/ the 4.0 gpa 2400 SAT. What I don’t see is uniqueness or passion. Just work on essays and you might get in to a HYPSM by academic merit, but they’re all reaches.

^Thanks for your input! Any more?

You are a very well-rounded student and clearly one of the smartest all around. The best part of your application is looking to be your extra-curriculars and your amazing scores and GPA. Obviously, none of the top schools are guarantees, but I don’t see any way that you wouldn’t be accepted into at least a few of them if your essays correspond to how well you have done so far. The only problem with you is that you are an Asian male and therefore a stereotypical applicant. You should look for something to standout a little more, especially something in the possible field that you want to go into, which I do not know of. Overall, you have a better chance than almost all at every one of these schools.

You should probably add Dartmouth, UPenn, Columbia, UChicago, and Duke to your list.
