Chance a sad senior? Oh and I will chance back :)

I've tried so hard in high school. I really have. But a combination of social and insecurity issues, depression, ADD and family issues have I believed kept me from my full potential. Not to mention I believe that I severely overestimated my abilities and didn't plan out my time effectively all the time.

Regardless of the reason, I'm extremely disappointed in myself :(

But here goes;

Personal Adversity: ADD, Bipolar Depression

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Honestly, if I can just get into UC Davis I will be more than thrilled, but I highly doubt that is even a possibility with my low GPA/Test scores :(

Total list of schools I am applying to:
UC Davis
UC Santa Barbara
UC Irvine
Santa Clara University
Pepperdine University
Boston University
Northeastern Unviersity
New York University
Cal Poly SLO
San Jose State University

I honestly doubt I will get into half of those, but again, I'm only shooting for UC Davis mainly.

I'm still extremely disappointed in my performance in high school altogether, but I hope if I get into one of those universities, I can pull myself together and hope for success in a career or grad school.

Thanks in advance and I will chance back if needed.

Muchas Gracias :)

You have a decent GPA and assuming you are in state, I think you can get into all the UCs you are applying to. I think you have a decent chance at NYU and Boston University. Not to sound racist, bit your ethnicity will definitely help you in grtting into college. Good luck with evrrything and chance me too!

UC Davis: Match (in-state)/High match (OOS; OOS, however, requires to keep your UC GPA to a minimum of 3.4 at all times or else it’s an automatic rejection)
UC Santa Barbara: Low match (in-state)/Match (OOS)
UC Irvine: Low match/Match
Santa Clara University: Low match
Pepperdine University: Low match
Boston University: Low match
Northeastern Unviersity: Safety
New York University: Match
Cal Poly SLO: Low match (in-state)/Match (out-of-state)
San Jose State University: Safety

Wow, you guys really think most of these schools are matches? I honestly cut my list down because i thought i was shooting too high, (i live in CA btw).

Maybe I’ve been thinking too small…i feel a little better now :)

What would you guys think of my chances for ucsd, UCLA or Boston college are?

UCSD: Reach
UCLA: Reach
BC: Reach

Agree your initial list has lots of matches. I suggest cutting in half the initial list and then adding a couple of reaches like UCSD and BC to your list. One other suggestion avoid the “I did not try very hard/overestimated my abilities” patter in the applications. It sounds a little unstable.

UC Davis defo match/high match (more towards high match)

What is your intended major? That will be very important as some majors are more impacted and/or competitive than others.

Your SAT is very good. You decide if you want to report your ACT. My kid was opposite. His SAT was not as good as his ACT and for one school we just didn’t report the SAT. He was accepted to 5 UC’s including UCLA and UCSD and both Cal Poly SLO and Cal Poly Pomona. He had no intention of attending any school north of Cal Poly SLO.

I have a different take on your matches. I will only answer those that I am very sure of:

UC Davis - Low Reach depending on major
UC Santa Barbara - Plausible Match depending on major
UC Irvine - Match - Plausible Match depending on major
Santa Clara University – Not sure
Pepperdine University – Not sure
Boston University – Reach
Northeastern University – Not sure
New York University – - Plausible Match depending on major
Cal Poly SLO – Low Reach depending on major. These days, depending on major, Cal Poly SLO is as or more competitive as the top UC’s such as UCLA, UC Berkeley and UCSD. Many kids, like mine, turn down the top UC’s for SLO especially in STEM majors and engineering in particular.
San Jose State University – Solid Match

I would add Cal Poly Pomona, San Diego State, Oregon State, Univ of Washington and others to your list.
