yea, so I have a cum gpa of 2.84 and trying to raise that up to a 3.0 by the end of this semester before regular decision, not early admission. It looks hard because I’m taking 4 AP’s- ap chem(very hard teacher who makes the collegeboard questions) ap lit, ap calc AB, and ap economics. Just trying to get decent grades in there. I just took them to prove myself that I am motivated since I did really bad my other years like almost failing honors chemistry and FAILING Alg 2. So far, I have decent grades in those classes.

SAT I 1830- 500 on Cr, 630 on math, and 700 on writing. I’m taking it again this october and hoping to get higher on math and Cr. I have a feeling that my superscore will be over 2000 more or less.

Great Ec’s- clubs, activities, being officer, leadership program…etc etc, not steller, but okay…

I’m going to apply to these schools since I live in Atl, Ga. I was trying to find some schools who accept people with low gpa’s but high Sat’s and I just found a few that had some decent percentages with low gpa’s.

ga tech <------need a really high math score, and hoping to get one

emory <------less than 1% chance so I might apply to oxford emory

vanderbilt 4% had gpa under a 3.0, might have been atheletes
4.Uga ----toughy, they like gpa, not SAT
5.Boston University ----8% had gpa under a 3.0

University of illinoise --just like their civil engineering program

Syracuse

tulane —maybe i want to do law…

Penn State

Any other suggestions? Also, could anyone tell me if those colleges have any outstanding undergraduate programs? Could anyone also tell me if there are any schools with great undergraduate programs, but not steller ones? I’m not talking about like John Hopkins or UCLA’s. Just the programs that are decent and worth it.

Every school listed above (except Univ of Georgia) ranks on the top 50 national universities list--so yes, they all have great undergraduate programs.

However, your grades and test scores will not get you into any of the colleges you have listed here except maybe Georgia unless you are a recruited athlete--and even then it's kind of doubtful.

You need to look at schools that are ranked slightly lower.

Go take a look at the USNW list and shoot for programs ranked in the 60-100 range. Many of these will accept you with the 1830 SAT score if you've shown an improving trend in grades.

so calcruzer, do you know any other schools with great undergraduate med or law programs? I'm thinking about going to easier schools and getting a high gpa and trying to also get high test scores, rather than going to a good school and having a really low gpa.

Actually, I should have said that you had a pretty good chance at Boston University also (I thought you had Boston College listed--which is a reach).

Other good schools for pre-med or pre-law on the 50-110 list would include schools like Ohio State, Florida, Texas A&M, Indiana, Oregon, Utah, Pittsburgh, Washington, Iowa, Colorado, and Minnesota. Purdue is also good for pre-med although not quite as much for pre-law. (Oh, and also Boston University for both). Florida would be tough to get into, but you have at least a passing shot at all of the rest.

You've already made 7 threads on the same topic and there is a common consensus that the colleges you want to apply to are all MASSIVE reaches.

Of course you have a chance at any college because your application is viewed simply by applying; however the chances at your college preferences are close to 0.

I would have thought that I might have had a chance into GaTech because there are a lot of kids who get in there with a 3.0 gpa with a high really MATH sat score. I was hoping that I could achieve this with my writing score and may have a chance in getting into there. I'm not doing early admission and I'm instate.

Maybe I just took it to prove that I could do the coursework. It would have looked worse if it was on there with nothing else. That's why I took it and I'm trying to make a's in those classes which I'm doing right now just to show colleges that I can do it. Thank you very much.

i am not delusional nor imo. WOW! I truly have been studying for the writing part. I learned that not or neither goes with nor. and Either goes with or.!! yesss
