GPA: 3.43 UW
Projected for Time of Application GPA: 3.6 UW
This GPA was because of only one year that brought it down due to family issues which will be the heart of my essay. Following that one semester, my grades shot back up. You can see from the grades below.

I was suspended for 3 days for being behind a closed door with a girl. (Private school rule)

Oh and I'm a lower class white male.

My sister graduated from Cornell

What do my chances look like?

Applying for Pre-Med

Colgate U -
Davidson C(ED) -
Emory U -
Franklin/Marshall C -
Haverford C -
Oberlin C -
Vassar C -
Washington & Lee U -

Any other suggestions for school that I might apply would be greatly appreciated.

ummm..PLEEEASE?

someone please :/

anyone out there?

i would say oberlin is a pretty good match for you. w&l may be a slight reach but ur given circumstances will help your chances. not really familiar with the others sorry

did ur old school have weighted gpa/ rank?

you also might want to look into a few more clubs so your ec's are well rounded

thanks for the input :)
my weighted gpa isnt impressive, im going to just put my uw because i dont have many (only 1) APs. and that is because i only had the opportunity to take one :/

Don't aply pre-med. That's suicidal in college terms.

what do you mean? ...

that D's gonna hurt you but the fam issues and service might help out a bit

i don't know too many of the schools too well but you should be all right cuz theyre all good LACs.. good luck!

Everyone apply's pre-med or English. Pick something else, because Pre-med people are usually the strongest people in the applicant pool. You don't have to pick amajor for another year anyways, so why worry. Undecided would probably be better.

im retaking physics, so hopefully it shouldnt hurt at all ...hopefully

Gonna ace that shiz

I love these schools, all party LAC schools with amazing academics and good financial aid. <3<3<3

And PREMED SCHOOLS HUZZA

but it doesnt matter what major i apply for i thought? Im just applying to the college, and need to get accepted there. after that I can choose whatever major I want? I didnt' know that declaring an intended major before applying effects your chances of acceptance. Im skeptical

I think some schools like for you to "project a major" when you apply/shortly after you apply because they want to balance the major distribution so that no single area of study is overwhelmed
Other schools (I know that MIT is one) will not hold major plans against you and require students not to declare a major until the end of freshman year or the beginning of sophomore year

COlsen-
So...you're from NY. What made you consider Oberlin (which is near me)?

well ive heard a lot about it. it sounds like it has a nice atmosphere and it has everything ive been looking for in a school. im not sure if im applying there however. obviously theyre not known for their pre-med. and i figure if i get into oberlin ill probably get into like colgate. which id rather go to. definitely applying to these 6 however.Colgate U Davidson C Franklin/Marshall C Haverford C Washington & Lee U Whitman C

so my list has changed..yet again...and by quite a bit...here it is :P

Colgate U -
Dartmouth C -
Franklin/Marshall C -
Haverford C -
Swarthmore C -
U Pennsylvania(ED?) -
Washington & Lee U -

yeah, quite different i know, i just dont know what i want :X

Yeah...I change my mind a lot, too. So many great colleges...so little time to fill out apps.

so, i took the SATs 2 days ago. im 90% sure i got a 2200+. Take that into account when chancing plzzzzzzzzz thanks.

Besides the WF and the D (which I know you said you're fixing), your stats are really pretty impressive. I think that your chances of being accepted at all of the schools but Dartmouth and Penn are really good. Dartmouth and Penn...well, who knows with the Ivies. I think it's pretty hard to predict any percentage chance of getting into the Ivies...admissions there seem like an elaborate game. Your essay sounds good, too. Family issues, as long as they don't center around divorce, could be winners in the essay category.

Are you worried that the suspension will negatively impact your admit possibilities? Or not (since the rule you broke is kind of silly/laughable)?

Frankly, unless you have a REALLY good reason for anything below a B on your grade report, I don't think you'll get the pickest colleges. I have several 4.0 friends who were rejected from the ivies. I was rejected from Penn with an unweighted 4.0, 2300, and 4/5 on my APs.

As for advice: I don't think you have to make your explaination your essay. It might be better if you wrote a great essay about a learning experience and its effect on your life and wrote an additional letter to your app-reader to explain your circumstances.
