By the way, how many AP and dual credit courses did you take and in what subjects? my guess is that you may get in, but likely get CAPed. So, if UT is where you want to go for engineering, you will get in, one way or the other.

I have 6 AP classes and 2 dual credit classes.

From what I’ve read Texas students either get CAP or get admitted. The only time one gets denied is if they did not complete their application. So getting CAPed is not the same as getting in.

According to Naviance for my school, my GPA is at the average and my ACT is above average for the students that have been admitted to UT from my high school. That gives me some hope. And according to UT data my ACT is above average for the ones admitted to engineering.

I’m applying to A&M also along with some other schools. Even a stretch school as “uofcpride” suggested, although not UC-Berkeley.

That is pretty much it, get a 3.2 gpa from one of the affiliated campuses and CAP guarantees admission to UT. Flunk those courses and even if you were in engineering as a freshman at UT you would be out as a sophomore. Given your performance on AP and dual credit, getting a 3.2 should not be a problem. Although, I think to get into engineering in the fall as an internal transfer one needs above a 3.5 depending on the department:

In the Spring it gets easier.

There’s an essay you can write, the Special Circumstances essay (Essay S), if you’ve had “exceptional hardships, challenges, or opportunities that have shaped or impacted your abilities or academic credentials, personal responsibilities, exceptional achievements or talents, educational goals, or ways in which you might contribute to an institution committed to creating a diverse learning environment”. I think your internship with the petroleum company might qualify for that and it could help you with admission. However, it’s not on ApplyTexas, you have to submit it using UT’s document upload system.

How did you get that internship anyway? I’m interested in PetE,too, but I had no idea that oil companies would hire high school students as interns.

@RanaGreen - I’ve seen that essay but I don’t think really applies to me. My brother-in-law works for an energy company and was able to get me in. It helps having relatives in the business and some contacts.
