Chance a transfer student from an Alabama CC

Some days I think my chances are as good as anyone’s, and others I think I’m really stupid to have even applied. You be the judge.

Currently attending: small community college in rural Alabama. Yeah, I know.
GPA: 3.9/4.0

ECs:
Gay-Straight Alliance co-founder and President
College Democrats co-founder and Publicity Vice-Chair
College Ambassador
Phi Theta Kappa (national honor society for two-year colleges)
Presidential Scholar

High School:
GPA:
101.7/100 weighted
3.9/4.0 unweighted
Rank: 2/86

ECs:
Class president; 10-12
Beta Club President; 12
American Legion Boys’ State Representative
National Endowment for the Arts community ambassador
Student Council

Tests:

ACT: 26. Not impressive, but I sent them (even though my current institution didn’t require them) because I talked about the scores in one of my essays.

SAT: Never taken.

Recommendations: Strong.
Essays: Strong (if the 1,000,000 people I had proof them are honest).

Intended major: Art History

Applying for financial aid?: Yes.

Also applying to: Cornell, William and Mary, Rhodes

If anything sticks out as a stumbling block, it would be your ACT. Most transfer admits mirror Freshmen admits. If you had applied as an incoming Freshman with the 26, I think it would have torpedoed your chances. It may do so as a transfer applicant.

Best of luck however. I believe you really would flourish in a more rigorous environment.

I guess choosing to send my ACT scores wasn’t my wisest decision, was it? I’ve heard not sending them could hurt just as much, so I decided to just put everything out there and see where it gets me. In my “reasons for transferring” essay I talked about my ACT scores and how they’ve influenced the decisions I’ve made so far, and how I’ve been successful in college despite my scores. Admissions officers may not buy it, but it seemed to be the best course if action. Anyway, thank you for putting me at ease by letting me know that I do have some chance, however little.
