Chance a Transfer Student? Thanks!

Applying for - Sophomore year transfer
Current school - BU
High school gpa: 3.49/4.0 cumulative, but there’s an upward trend…3.8 senior year gpa
SAT: 2100
College gpa: 3.5/4.0, dean’s list
ECs/Work:
-Research assistant at an education clinic at BU over the summer
-Research job as lab monitor and database developer at a BME lab
-possibly course assistant for a computer science course during spring semester.

  • I also am part of a group that is developing an iOS app for a non-profit, except we’re not really that active so I dunno if I should put that on my application.
-Finally, I think I’ll find a community service club to join during the spring semester.
    Gender: Female
    Ethnicity: Asian

Am I aiming too high?

For transfers, the big question is why you don’t like your current school, and why you think X school (Brown, in this case) will be better. Many transfer applicants are academically qualified, but Brown’s looking for the ones who have thought it through and know what they’re looking for in their education.

Thanks for your response!

Yeah I’ll definitely keep that in mind.

I transferred in. Brown varies considerably from year to year in the number of admits, therefore it’s hard to predict. They also (last time I checked) take financial need into account, which can be a strong detriment if that’s you.

Adding onto what Bruno14 said, it’s not just the Why School X essay. It’s the total package. You’re not aiming to high, you have good basic stats. A good, solid transfer GPA is 3.7+. An acceptable transfer GPA is 3.5+. Your SATs are not incredible, but they aren’t prohibitively bad. The question is going to be how you put together your application – like the Why School X essay, etc, and simply how many people they take in any given year. PM me if you like.
