Hi all, I'm a junior looking to see what my chances are at my current list. I come from a mid-sized school in rural Vermont (1300 students).

Founded my own web design company, with contracts multi-thousand-dollar contracts
Worked at a tech startup summer before sophomore year, as a (paid) programming intern
Spent 1 month in France summer before junior year

The list: (divided into 2 groups: will apply, and considering)
1. Harvard University - (apply early) — awesome
2. Stanford University - (apply early) — awesome
3. Princeton University - (apply early) — awesome
4. Massachusetts Institute of Technology – Early Action — awesome
5. Dartmouth College - (apply early) — nice campus, mix
6. Cornell University - (after EA results) — Ivy, easier
7. Georgetown University - Early Action — Washington, politics
8. Amherst College - pretentious, LAC, beautiful campus
9. University of Chicago - Early Action — intellectual atmosphere

Colgate University

Yale University

American University

Washington University in St. Louis — midwest

Swarthmore University

Wesleyan University

George Washington University

Tufts University

Bucknell University

Carnegie Mellon University - (after EA results) — match, tech

Skidmore College

Pomona College — SoCal

McGill University - huge classes

Brown University – hippy

Middlebury College — VT

No need to chance all of them—just ones you know about. Also, give me suggestions on schools I might want to remove or add if you can.

it looks like you would get into many of these schools, with the ivies, stanford, and a few others being reaches (as they would be for anyone) however i dont think harvard or princeton have early action/decision programs anymore, and dartmouth and cornell and others only offer ED, which means you can only apply to that school in the early round. also consider moving yale up to the list you re applying to- it’s a great school.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/839351-dartmouth-rd-chances.html

I’d say that you’re a low reach at MIT for Computer Science

I’d need to see your SAT IIs but assuming you they are in the range of 750 here are my predictions.

Harvard University - reach

Stanford University - reach - maybe EA here instead of Uchicago? just a thought.

Princeton University - reach

Massachusetts Institute of Technology – low reach

Dartmouth College - (apply early) — low reach/high range

Cornell University - (after EA results) — If big schools an cold weather is your thing… but considering your stats and the other schools on your list… I wouldn’t other applying to this unless it’s a favorite or something. otherwise. range.

Georgetown University - range.

Amherst College - high range/ low reach

University of Chicago - high range

Colgate University - i wouldn’t app to this one. - range.

Yale University - range… EA to this or Stanford? unless CT isn’t your thing.

American University - safe.

Washington University in St. Louis — high safe

Swarthmore University - high range.

Wesleyan University - range.

George Washington University - don’t it’s safe… but why GWU when unless DC is your thing?

Tufts University - low range

Bucknell University - no idea

Carnegie Mellon University - range

Skidmore College - safe

Pomona College — no idea.

McGill University – if you want to go to a tops Canadian school… UBC has better weather, is equally prestigious and is just a much better scene. would be high safety.

Brown University – reach (Brown is random as hell)

Middlebury College — range/safe

Barty13: Thanks a lot! Your response is very helpful. I haven’t taken the SATIIs yet, but I assume I can get high 700s.

I’m trying to avoid SCEA so I can have the option to apply EA to a couple—though it depends on how my list turns out. If my final list only has one EA on it, I’ll make it Stanford.

Cornell is on my list because it fits some of my criteria (prestigious, northeast) and seems easier to get into than some of the others on my list.

Why do you say no? Any particular reason?

Why do you put Yale as a range, but Princeton as a reach? I’d really like to know, in case there’s something helpful.

Indeed it is. :)

McGill is in Quebec, north of Vermont, so has similar weather to where I’ve grown up. Also, I’d like being in Montreal (French).

I’d say you’re in for everything except the ivys. I’m sure you’ll get in to one of the ivys obviously considering you have a good gpa and good ECs. good luck!
