Chance an abnormal asian who is cray enough to study western philosophy

<p>Hello! Thanks for viewing~~~
I'm a first generation Chinese immigrant to the U.S.A.
I immigrated here three years ago, and yes, i still have some minor English problems.
My family is poor. My mom just find an engineering job and is divorcing my step dad.But I do have green card and i'm applying for citizenship.
Before 2006 my family's combine income, that is, combining the salary of my step dad and my mom, was below 35000.
But now, my mom is getting 45000 a year....
My mom has no clue about colleges and my education.
She doesn't even know how to pronounce "John Hopkins" properly.</p>

<p>I'm male
and I'm 17</p>

<p>here are my stat</p>

<p>Schedule:</p>

<p>9th Don't even remember, nothing significant, no AP nor honors, nothing. I couldn't even comprehend basic English back then. GPA:3.75 (btw, my english level during that time was below ESL level, which means i couldn't understand what College Confidential meant)</p>

<p>10th Two honor classes, I took the geometry during the summer so i took the honors Algebra 2 and honors biology. GPA:4.00 GPA Cumulative:3.99</p>

<p>11th AP Environmental Science, AP Biology, AP U.S History, AP Psychology, AP Physics, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and English 11

<p>In the summer of 2007, I also took the English Composition class at the community college and i got a B. </p>

<p>12th AP English British Lit, AP Calculus, AP Human Geography, AP American Government and Politics, AP World History.
I'm taking Introduction to Information system in the community college and planned to get a B or C. I don't really care about that class because it consists of a total waste of my time.
Planning to take Fundamentals of Programming and C Programming during the fall semester. </p>

<p>ECs:
I didn't know there were clubs existed in the school until my second year.
I couldn't do sports because i don't have health insurance coverage.
Environmental Club (2 years of participation, i spend a lot of time on this, i went to nearly every field trip and every meetings)
Envirothon Team (It's like academic team, we competed in the county last year, got a third place, nothing significant. But i spend a lot of time on this. Two years of participation.)
Gamer's Club (I joined this club in the 10th Grade, and we played yu-gi-oh card. I somehow thought that play yu-gi-oh was cool in america back then, but haha, i was wrong)
Chess Team(one year)
National Honor Society (The lamest most pretentious organization have ever seen, 2 years)
Volunteering at the hospital for 12 hours volunteering at the bike riding for 16 hours. Not too shabby.
Also work at McDoanlds during the summer. The job sucks.
Math Tutoring
I clean the church, i'm an atheist and i "clean" the church with my step dad every week. How sarcastic, I "CLEANED" the church.
and finally
Student Page to Annapolis state government assisting politicians. </p>

<p>Awards:
Student of the month.
AP Scholar with Distinction
Art show awards
and tons of other awards, they are numerous, but nothing significant. </p>

<p>I want to major in philosophy/computer science in the college.
I have read a lot of western philosophy during the last two years. I extensivly researched on the Deconstruction method of Derrida, the metaphysics of Nietzsche, and the relation between man and technology of Heidegger. I also have great interests in history and computer science. ALL the history teacher knows that i'm a history freak, and all my english teachers know I'm down with philosophy. Therefore, I will get very very good recommendations</p>

<p>Schools i want to go to:
Yale (I know it is impossible, but not applying it is the denial of any possibilities)
John Hopkins (Early Decision)
New York University
University of California Berkeley
UC Los Angles
University of Maryland College Park (Safety)</p>

<p>might not want to mention the illegal stuff lol,</p>

<p>but i think that you have good chances some of those schools. You have legit reasons for your test scores and they'll probably realize that so not to worry.
What's interesting is I'm friends with this girl who is in the exact same situation as you (even took the same classes and you are both in the same clubs and you both live in maryland!). She's applying to columbia this year though, but I'm sure she too will get in.</p>

<p>That said, I don't know about Yale, but you have a decent shot at the rest. Only thing is, you can't apply ED to JHU and EA to Yale. Good luck!</p>

<p>you look fine for JOHN*S* HOPKINS.
=)</p>

<p>Thanks for advice :)
That was my first post.
Let's BUMP it up
lol</p>

<p>eating food: Thanks for advising! That's very interesting. Maybe it is because all the marylanders are the same. Let me quote Tolstoy here:"Hardworking immigrants are alike. Every lazy immigrants is lazy in their own way. "</p>

<p>hehe i like you. have you taken toefl?</p>

<p>You are so awesome for translating for the immigrants. :D</p>

<p>Getting into Yale is also impossible if you are accepted to Johns Hopkins ED.</p>
