African American female interested in Engineering

I know my details aren't as lengthy as others but I just want an honest opinion. I'm interested in JHU, UPenn, and Duke (i realize that these are probably reaches)

Any recommendations?

I would actually say you are in all of those schools.

Being a URM is a significant advantage. I have seen stats much lower get accepted to comparable schools.

If anything I would apply to some harder schools like Yale or Harvard.

You’re in for all 3 schools you listed, although there’s a slight chance you might get reject. I doubt it, though.

Thank you both for your input/opinions. I wasn’t sure if being a URM would be THAT much of an advantage, but maybe it will be. I only looked at Harvard a couple of days ago because they sent an application. I don’t know if I will apply though. I might look more closely at Yale because I’m pretty sure they have BME. Thanks again for your input

Yeah I’m gonna reiterate what the above people said. Your URM status is a huge advantage. All three schools that you listed you have about a 75-85% chance of getting into, (JHU being about 85%, UPenn being 75%). Those chances are much higher than most, but again there is that small percentage that you won’t get in. Also, you should apply to schools such as HYP and Columbia (the engineering school), as your chances aren’t as good as JHU, UPenn, and Duke, but you’ve still got a shot.

Thanks for the feedback. I liked Columbia but my dad isn’t too excited about me going and staying in NYC. So I doubt I’ll apply.

When I saw your thread title: “African American Female” I knew any school the OP was trying to get into wasn’t out of question lol.

I really had no idea that that made such a huge difference
