Chance an anxious east coaster?

Hi everyone! I'm a senior at a public high school in Massachusetts who is still waiting to hear back. I applied as a neurobiology major. I'll try to keep this kind of succinct since I'm sure you've been seeing a lot of these. I do want to preface this by saying that throughout my high school career I have undergone family issues that have influenced my performance, but have also shaped by future path. My father passed away from a neurodegenerative disease this past year, lending to my passion for the neurology field. I do not intend for this to be a "waiver" card of sorts, however, I cannot deny that it has had a profound impact on my academic performance. I went into detail about this in my application and honestly I was grateful that UW seemed to encourage applicants to elaborate on their home lives!

GPA (W): 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. My guidance counselor has said that a major part of her letter is going to be devoted to how this doesn't reflect my academic potential.

SAT II: Lit 690, US History 710

As for community service I have a ton of hours stacked up (100+). I have also been babysitting for two families for about five years now.

My essays should be strong considering I am a strong writer overall and I have solid ideas to work with. I am mostly concerned with my GPA seeing as though it is much weaker than the average UW applicant. I'm hoping that my personal connection to my academic field of interest will at least help.

I appreciate you taking the time to read & reply to this!

Uw doesn’t take letters of recomendation so I don’t know if that would help you. Your gpa, is slightly below average for uw but is pretty good. Your test scores are awesome and your extracurriculars are amazing. You have a really good chance of getting accepted for uw. I would say about 70% chance.

Also an anxious east coaster, except I’m from New Jersey, applied as a CS major, and my stats aren’t as impressive as yours.

Good luck.

Got the letter today and as much as I wish I could say that I have good news, I don’t. Time to begin the appeal process since it would give me an opportunity to present them with my teacher recs I suppose…

Good luck to everyone else who applied and congrats to those who were accepted!

Sucks to hear, dude. :(

Good luck with the appeal process. If that doesn’t work out, good luck wherever else you applied or got in.
