Chance an ED athletic recruit for Vassar?

Hi! Vassar is one of my dream schools, and I would just like some speculation about my chances as an Early decision applicant.

-I'm a white male from Arizona
-Athletic recruit
-Early decision

Here are my academic stats:

-GPA: 3.61 unweighted, 4.14 UC GPA
-10 Honors classes taken, 5 AP taken (all 4's and 5's on the tests)
-Senior class president
-Founder and President of Philosophy Club
-Founder and President of Pyschology/Sociology Club
-President of Politics Club
-Diversity Club member- went on school trip to Canada, and hosted a student from Canada for two weeks
-Debate Club member
-"Friends of the Orphans" Club member- went on week long mission trip to an orphanage in Mexico during spring break

-Went on a mission trip to Tanzania for two weeks over the summer
-Went to study philosophy for two weeks at Oxford over the summer
-225 Hours Community Service will be completed upon graduation (of 125 required for graduation)
-Varsity Track for school (two years JV, two years Varsity)
-Run club track during the summer and off season (Track Athlete Year Round)-
-Went to the USATF Junior Olympics Nationals for 110m hurdles-- Got 20th in the nation for my age group
-Very, very good recommendations
-Graduating Summa Cum Laude from a prep school in Arizona
-School does not rank, but about 25 out of around 200 usually graduate Summa Cum Laude

-SAT: Math 710, Writing 780, CR 730, Total: 2220

-Wrote a very personal essay about my father's alcoholism, and how he took his own life when I was eight years old.

The coach recruiting you will probably be able to give you better information than responses from anonymous people on “chance me” threads. Also, post a question about admission stats on the athletic recruits forum. At least the majority of posters there have at least some knowledge of the recruiting process and what it takes to be admitted.

didn’t even think of that…thanks

Unless you are withholding some vital piece of information you are almost certainly going to be admitted. Your SAT scores, which Vassar puts considerable weight on, place you just below the 75th percentile. Your unweighted GPA, which makes you a borderline top 10% student, is about the only “weakness” on your academic record. I would think you’d have a reasonably good shot at admission even without being a recruited athlete. Since you are, I would estimate your chances as an ED admit are excellent.

Your response makes me very excited! To be honest, I’m just excessively anxious and I’m looking for some reassurance. Since Vassar really doesn’t place much emphasis on athletics, I wasn’t sure if that would hold significant weight in the admissions process. When you say I am a borderline top 10% student for my unweighted GPA, do you mean nationwide? (That’s only part of your response that confuses me). I can agree with you that that is my greatest “weakness”-- that number in comparison to Vassar’s average of 3.77 has brought me a great deal of anxiety. I’m hoping that the rest of my application, in addition to my test scores, will help the committee to overlook that.

Thank you for your input! Do you go to Vassar?

My older brother was recruited for basketball. He had slightly lower SAT and GPA than you, but he got in RD. These athletic jock-dicks have a lot of say.

But he got into William and Mary, which is a better school and cheaper in state, plus he isnt THAT into liberal arts. So he turned down Vassar.

Youre in ED 85%, IMO.
