Chance an environmental engineering hopeful for good schools?

IDK how this should be formatted but here we go I guess

ACT: 36 (35 english/math, 36 science/reading)
SAT: 1520 (790 math, 730 reading) not sending tho
SAT II: taking Bio & Math II in May

9th grade: 0/1 AP, all honor core classes
10th grade: 3/4 APs (bio, ush, calc ab), rest were honors or electives
11th grade: all IB (HL math, bio, english SL history, german, chem)
12th grade: same as 11th

Extracurriculars:
Band 9-12 (squad leader probably, drum leader maybe next year but idk for sure)
Speech 9-12 (sucked the first 2 years, then switched categories and qualified to states :stuck_out_tongue: )
German 11-12 (pretty chill club we don’t do much)
Hopefully doing environmental research with OSU Wooster professors for my IB extended essay this summer
worked at Asian restaraunt July-October 2016

Volunteering:
Hospital (I think ~20 hours now, going to be about 100 by the time I apply I think)
Coaching Middle School Speech (24 hours)
Stuff at local park (idk yet, ~50 hours? I’m doing it this summer)

Summer things:
10th grade: short music camp
11th grade: osu summer program on stone lab with birbs for a week, hospital/park volunteering, job at Asian restaraunt again

white male from rural Ohio, parents make 80-100k

And that’s about it. It’s a really tiny application because I’m pretty introverted and didn’t really like doing EC’s until I realized I wanted to go somewhere good for college, so I started volunteering and getting more involved in what I am doing. I know that some of these schools I’ll never get into, but give me a chance? or please recommend me some good schools with environmental engineering?

Cornell (applying ED)
Tufts
Hamilton
Michigan
Case Western
OSU Columbus
SUNY ESF

Your grades are really strong, and it seems like you’re involved with your community. Have you considered Georgia Tech? It’s a great engineering school but it is very selective.

@furrypups101
I’ve heard of it! Do you know if they have any NMF program? Because i kind of forgot to mention i got that lol

Great test scores, pretty impressive coursework. Your ECs/Awards are on the lighter section (depth not quantity) for some of your reaches that expect you to have cured cancer. That being said, you do have some geographic diversity that counselors could like. And, as with all of these, essays and recommendations easily make and break decisions.

Cornell - Reach
Tufts - Low Reach
Hamilton - High Match
Michigan - High Match
Case Western - Low Match
OSU Columbus - Safety
SUNY ESF - Safety

With your list I’d expect at least 4 acceptance letters so you’ll definitely have some choices. Best of luck!

I’m not sure if GT does, but you should definitely check it out! It’s a really great school and the campus isn’t bad either. The school is pretty diverse and the academics are challenging. I’m from Georgia, and we consider it as the “Harvard of the South”

thanks for the suggestion! I’ll definitely look into it, although it might be a reach for me

@MaizeScream I don’t know if your interested, but Lehigh University in PA has an excellent environmental engineering program. you should take a look!

@MaizeScream You have a really impressive profile! With those scores, you will be considered to be in some of the most competitive applicant pools. And if you are able to plan things well, build up a narrative that resonates with what you want to do, I see you getting into the very best. I’ve seen people with much less get into HYPS. You also stand to benefit from the diversity point of view.

You come off as an independent person who understands and feels for the community and you need to make the admission officers reading your app to understand that! Work on essays, start talking more to teachers to get them prepared to write you great letters of recommendation because you need their good support. I think you should apply to other top schools, the better public universities and the ivies. Apply to MIT for their Civil and Environmental Engineering program and the one at Princeton. Also, I think you have a good chance with Cornell ED, do that unless you end up doing something more during summer: research, attending a prestigious summer school, raising the scale of community service in your community, etc. Then you can hope to get into even better schools!

For all that you are and that you will be best of luck! Just believe in yourself and apply! Not applying = 0% chance. Try to find some things of importance from your common, everyday life that represent you best. Don’t do anything to impress them, be yourself and you’ll see wonders!

wow, you really think i should try for mit or princeton? I guess I’ll give one super reach school a shot, I just don’t want to waste money. Thanks for the advice!

Hey!

Your stats are really awesome! Pretty sure that you have a good shot at all of them!

Cornell - Reach (You never know what would happen, You still seem to be a strong applicant for this one!)
Tufts - Reach (I would say reach for this one because I am not really sure about this one!)
Hamilton - Match
UMichigan - Match
Case Western - Match
OSU Columbus - Safety
SUNY ESF - Safety

I would like to wish you all the best!

Your stats are incredible and you’re competitive at pretty much any school with those scores - ECs are a bit lacking though. I’d say you’re good for most of your schools except Cornell, which is a reach for everyone. ED should up your chances though.
