Talk to your coach from sophomore yr. And look up which intl need blind schools have a sailing team, as opposed to club.
If youâre applying for college this Fall, youâre very late in the game for athletic recruiting. You can reach out to college coaches, but most recruited athletes would already have been in discussions with college coaches for months - and most will apply ED for coach support in admissions. FYI - there are no athletic scholarships for college sailing. The ICSA (which governs college sailing) doesnât allow athletic scholarships for sailing.
But it might help him to get accepted at a college that meets need for intl students.
There are very few spots on varsity sailing teams at colleges that would fit that description - and many more top sailors in the US (most/many falling into the 'full-pay" vs. âneeds full-rideâ category) than recruited athlete (fully coach-supported) spots. Sailing is not a golden ticket for college admissions (except for a very few kids). At best - itâs another extra-curricular activity like debate, band, math competitions, robotics, etc. The OP should reach out to coaches (usually through recruitment questionnaires found linked on sailing team websites) - thatâs the only way to determine if there is coach interest and at what level of coach support with admissions.
