but is it a low match or high match for me?

Probably a “medium” match for Engineering.

is my stats competitive for UIUC’s compsci program???

UIUC Computer Science is one the top majors at the school so it might be a “low reach” for you.

from the UIUCwiki:

“For incoming freshmen in 2008, the College of Engineering reported an ACT score interquartile range of 30–33”

30 - 33 on the ACT is 1980 - 2190 on the SAT. Engineering majors that are in high demand by students will skew towards the higher end of that range. The range might be higher now.

1400 out of 1600 is what i got on my first try. I am taking it again this october, aiming for 1500/1600. I am puzzled as i emailed UIUc’s admission and he told me that they only look at CR +M but the range online is out of 2400.

The ACT to CR + M conversion: 30 - 33 = 1330 - 1480

Shooting for 1500 on your second try places you at the higher end of the Engineering range, at least for 2008.

But i heard that once you reached a certain score, they will look at your GPA, class rank and vigor which i am very confident about. We are required to take 7 courses but i took 9 for two years(including current year). I am also in the top 5% of my class. I have a question, is there a lot of applicants from Canada, as none of my friends are applying to engineering, and if they do, they are all applying to Cornell or Stanford.

more extra curriculars

High match, now that I’ve finalized my judgment…

what if i got 1500/2200???

If it is not computer, mechanical or biomedical engineering, getting 1500/2200 puts you in a low match position, since I’m hesitant to put the safety status. Otherwise you’re still in match territory. But U.S. adcoms seem to take Canadian GPAs at face value.

usuniversity2017 you get an “A” for your persistence with the "bump"s but I’m not sure this activity counts as an extracurricular…

The standards are higher for international students, because the number of available slots per country is limited. You’ll need to not only meet the UIUC minimum requirements, but also be one of the top 10-20 Canadian applicants to the school. That makes it wildly unpredictable and collecting random opinions from the CC audience won’t help your odds. Make sure you have a Canadian backup option.

Anyone else?

Update: My October SAT score is 2200/2400 and 1510/1600. What are my chances now if i apply to computer science under the college of engineering?

any help would be greatly appreciated
