Hi i am in Grade 11 studying in BC Canada. I am planing to apply to UIUC engineering this year.

SAT 1: 2040 / 2400 1400/1600
percentage: 90%
Ranking: School doesn't rank but definitely in top 10%
Course load: Taking 9 courses this year (my school doesn't offer AP courses)

Extra-curricular activity:
200+ hours
Plays the violin and is in my school's symphony Orchestra
Strings committee
Mentoring youth in my community

What are my chances? What SAT (out of 1400) do i need to make it a safety for me???

Actually, i am also in the math club. I helped to tutor juniors in comp sci club. I moved to Vancouver from Korea two years ago, thus my weak ECs. For strings committee, i planned camps for students and organized music events in school. My 200+ hours is at the BC science center.

By how much do i have to up my SAT to make it a safety? I will have a much higher average if main subjects are counted. I took 9 courses to make up for my ECs.

usuniversity2017 I looked at our high school’s Naviance scattergrams and to make UIUC a “safety” I think you need a 2200 or above. We were on a UIUC tour and were told the school pretty much admits solely based on GPA and ACT/SAT.

As far as I can tell all SAT scores are submitted. The ACT writing test score is not required nor is it considered. This changed recently to conform with the ACT test which is taken by all Illinois high school students which does not include the writing component due to State budget cut-backs

UIUC requires that you apply into a specific engineering major. Some are very competitive - mechanical and bio eng. are the toughest, as I recall from our tour this summer. I think your current SAT and “90%” gpa (is that a 3.5 unweighted when converted?) makes those majors a “reach”. Others engineering majors might be a “match”. They don’t seem to care much about extracurriculars according to our information session person.
