Chance an LAC lover! - Vassar, Midd, Haverford, Hamilton, etc

Hiiiii.

Asian female, low income, will be doing Questbridge, first to go to college, second-generation immigrant, horrible school with virtually no offered APs (school has block scheduling)

Applying to:
Vassar (Dream)
Middlebury (Dream)
Haverford
Hamilton
Bryn Mawr

Maybe:
Lafayette
Pomona
Cornell
Bowdoin

GPA: 4.0UW, 4.5+W
SAT: 1390/2110 (740CR, 650M, 720W 10 Essay) - Flubbed. Will improve.
SAT II: Taking USH and Lit/Spanish come September
Courses: Almost completely honors, AP, and dual-enrollment (save required ECs)

ECs:
-Scholastic Scrimmage/i - 4 years
-*GSA/i - Fledgling club. Have put a lot of effort, love, and energy in building its foundations
-*Human Rights Club /i - In the process of having it approved :)
-*Diversity Club/i - In the process of having it approved
-*Student Council
- 2 years
-Student Focus Group - Fresh club this year
-Model UN - 2 years (will maybe run for secretary)
-Junior Social Committee *
-*Volunteer at Hospital/i
-Will probably be *volunteering at Planned Parenthood and a legal clinic
this summer. I'll probably gain a lot of hours.
-Flute - 6 years

Recs:
Counselor Rec: Will probably be excellent. She sees my drive in making a difference, knows my life story pretty much, and I see her very often
Teacher Recs: Will be asking APUSH and H. Brit Lit teachers - will probably glow. Took 3 semesters worth of classes with my APUSH teacher and my Brit Lit teacher loves me and writes GREAT anecdotal recs. May substitute for Scholastic Scrimmage/H. American I teacher who is a Hamilton alum.
Other Recs: Will ask GSA advisor - she writes good ones (or so my counselor has said), and is a Bryn Mawr alum.

Essay: I am a very strong writer. My essay will probably be centered around how my very poor and drug/crime-infested neighborhood has pushed me to better myself. The essay will probably be the strong point in my app.

Senior Schedule:
-AP Bio
-AP Lit and Comp
-Dual-Enrollment Adv. Drawing (might win some art awards)
-Dual-Enrollment Prob and Stats
-Dual-Enrollment World History
-Popular Music II
-Honors Spanish IV
-Forgot the last one, but it was probably insignificant

Bump! 10char

Bump - guess everyone is attracted to non-LAC threads

I think your sats scores are great.

the colleges, vassar, midd, and haverford, hamiltions are mostly high matches for you.
Cornell and Bowdoin maybe reaches…

I dont know how your situation with the “easy courses” is, but I can tell tha tyou are high ranked in school.

For me, it is the oppositve, exteremly competitve hs but lower gpa.

let me know if you have any other questions

chance me:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1099964-please-chance-me-i-will-do-same-thanks-2.html</a></p>

Thank you very much for the chance. I don’t believe my school is particularly “easy”. There is just a huge rift in quality of education between Honors/AP/Dual-Enrollment and regular Academic classes that causes a lot of students to shy away from harder courses. Block scheduling also causes work to double for each class, so it’s rather hard to juggle 30 or so pages of reading, notes, and studying for each class each night. In addition, block scheduling doesn’t allow for a good amount of APs to be provided at my school.

Gah! Sigh.

Bump 10char

Don’t worry too much about your SATs, your general stats are strong enough that a few extra points won’t greatly boost your chances. That’s ultimately up to you, of course.

Lafayette and Bryn Mawr are matches, Cornell and Bowdoin mid to low reaches. The rest are of course very competitive schools, so I almost feel like I’d be misleading you to tell you they are high matches, but you are right on track. Best of luck to you!

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1116167-what-my-chances-northwestern-syracuse-etc.html</a></p>

Thank you for taking the time to chance - I will be shooting for SAT scores in the 2200s :)

Bumpalump 10char

bump 10char

I think you’ve got a fighting chance just about everywhere. If there’s a reach in that bunch, it’s Cornell, maybe Bowdoin.

The SAT retake will almost definitely help you out. Have you considered the ACT? If you do well (which seems like a very strong possibility given the rest of your resume) it’ll provide you with yet another bump.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1118399-chance-theatre-acting-inclined-junior-ill-chance-you-back.html#post12333784</a></p>

Thanks  I’m taking the ACT on the 16th

Buuuuuuuuump

Bump, again.

One last bump
