Chance and reverse chance a CA junior!

my safeties are heavily underdeveloped, i’m aware, so i’ll look for more affordable and “safe” options. thank you !! i’ll also keep in mind the chances for the regents scholarship.

i’ve checked the WUE list and ran the scholarship estimator :]] it seems to be affordable. thank you !

yes ofc !! i did look up the WUE majors and poli sci is included :]]

I’ve considered them but a) too close to home for my comfort (even though I know UCLA is also close but it’s one of my dream schools) and b) the religious aspect throws me off. i’m staunchly atheist and I don’t know if I would like schools that are based on religion like that.

https://webapp4.asu.edu/programs/t5/programs/Keyword/wue/undergrad/false?init=false&nopassive=true says that WUE for political science is available at the West campus, not the main Tempe campus.

As @ucbalumnus noted in the specific case of ASU, you have to be careful when looking up WUE schools. Not all schools offer every major under WUE. The more popular the major is, and thus more likely to fill with full paying OOS students, the less likely it is that they will discount. Also, just because you apply for WUE doesn’t mean you won’t be offered something even better than WUE tuition on your award.

If you are doing WUE why not apply for schools with great merit period…suc as U of AZ. ASU again. Alabama. Florida State. U OF SC Honors

If you are applying Swatty on Questbridge, why not easier (nit easy) such as Oberlin abd Wash & Lee not to mention Emory, UVA.

Dartmouth is a college. Sorry dad.

You may also try SMU as they have a full ride for diverse backgrounds.

You def want to add some safeties. Or at least one with incredible merit like AZ that publishes up front just in case.

Your dad shouldn’t care if it ends in institute if you win questbridge.

Good luck.

My kid graduated from Santa Clara. Yes, it’s a Jesuit college. There is a course requirement for religion courses, but there are tons and tons of courses that can satisfy this requirement. My kid took a Women in Religion course, and an ethics course, and one other. She enjoyed them.

No chapel requirement, and it’s not a religion in your face place. Very ecumenical and welcoming of all.

We are not Catholic.

You can add University of New Mexico to your list too. You would likely receive very good merit aid there.

As far as religious schools, the role religion plays in the daily life of a student varies widely by campus. The best source for that info is current student.

Sac State would be a great safety - their proximity to the state capitol make for a very compelling curriculum. Similarly, Boise State - a WUE school - is walkable from their state capitol.

Keep an open mind as you go through the application process. Since many competitive schools are test blind - admissions have gotten less predictable. Apply broadly and include more matches and safeties than you think necessary - that way you will get to choose from several good options.

good luck.

I would add University of Utah to the list for the same reason. Although not walkable, it’s very close. Many fear the influence of the LDS church when considering The U. Although felt, SLC and The U are both very liberal, with well under 50% of the population Mormon. They have a female, Democrat mayor. The student experience at Utah is great. My son almost chose it even with stats higher than the OPs. Lots to like.
