<p>I'm currently about to start junior year at UB (SUNY) and I'm interested in possibly transferring to Cornell University. My academics could definitely be better but they're on an upward trend, I made Dean's List last semester at UB. I'm a political science major and also involved in the Daniel Acker Scholars Program. Here are my less than impressive stats:</p>
<p>Highschool GPA: 3.0
College GPA: 3.3
SAT: 1290/1600, 1920/2400. 590 math, 700 on verbal, 640 on the writing.
ACT: 28</p>
<p>I have done tons of community service and I'm a pretty fair writer so the essays will help not hurt me. I have a pretty interesting background; I was born in Ghana, moved to Northern Virginia when i was 8. I'm bilingual. Will being an underrepresented minority help me at all? Not that that would be the reason I'd want to get it but the "advantage" is similar to the 'legacies'. I'll probably be applying for the spring semester if I choose to for the College of Arts and sciences as a Government major. I did also take the sat 2s, getting 800s on both US and World History. That ought to count for something in poli sci!</p>
<p>Since I'm a Virginia resident, UVA is not out of the realm of possibilities but since tuition is free for me at UB (Acker scholar) and cost would be reduced at Cornell (family incomes around 100k, my dad could live with 10k per yr for an ivy league degree).</p>
<p>A. Do you think I have a shot at Cornell?
B. UVA?
C. Graduate at UB with about 3.6 gpa, focus heavily on the lsats and go to a school ranked higher than cornell for law school? I'm thinking Northwestern Because they seem to place a bigger emphasis on lsats even for lawschools which works out for me. My sats and acts would be higher if I took the classes and cared about them, problems I will fix for the lsat.</p>
