I'm in a little bit of a unique situation. I had a 3.12 my freshman year but a 4.0 my sophomore and junior year. I have heard colleges appreciate the "upward trend", however, I am trying to understand how much they take that into account. I did outstanding on my tests: 35 on the ACT, 2310 on the SAT, 800 on the Math Subject Test, 800 on the U.S. History Subject Test, and a 780 on the Chemistry Subject Test. Senior course load was very rigorous: AP Calculus BC, AP Lit, AP Physics, AP French Literature, AP Macroeconomics, and Latin 3rd Year. AP scores: 5-AP Calculus AB, 5-AP Chemistry, 5-AP Government, 4-AP Lit. I have not taken the AP tests for my senior year(considering they are in May), I am hoping to get all 5's. I founded two clubs at my school: one that helps students study for their AP exams, and one that gets about 20 student together every weekend to help military families with yard work(whether it be shoveling snow, spring clean-up, or raking leaves in the fall). I also founded the Latin Honors Society, however, being a 2nd year Latin student(I founded it when I was a junior) it was not appropriate to name me president. Leadership positions: President of the French Honors Society, Treasurer of the NHS, as well as being co-captain of the varsity lacrosse team and president of the two clubs I founded. Volunteering: I spent almost every Sunday for the past 2 years teaching mentally challenged children how to play basketball, over 75 hours at the hospital, and spent almost every weekend for the past year or so helping military families. Separately, I had a pretty interesting summer going into my junior year. I worked in Africa for 4 weeks via NOLS(National Outdoor Leadership School) and took a class on biotechnology at the local CC. The summer of my senior year I studied Advanced Scientific Research at Harvard(Harvard's Secondary School Program), I also shadowed and assisted a Yale trustee who predicts oil futures. I realize many students have better credentials than I do. The main purpose of this thread is to chance me with consideration to my low freshman year gpa. I know it would have been better to put this in a list format, sorry!

Definitely Georgetown and ND. Probaly would get into 2-3/8 Ivies. Your GPA freshman year is your only weak spot.

Thank you for the response. I know, my freshman year has been haunting me throughout.

its hard to say but i agree with wi11sf maybe 2 ivies is what I am thinking

bumppp…

Relax, you’ll go somewhere nice. I promise. (:

Is there a particular reason your freshman year GPA was so low? Perhaps you can explain why in the additional information section of the common app.
