I have a 3.8 gpa as a sophomore, and last year I had a 3.83 as a freshman. These are unweighted scores, and everyone in my grade takes the same classes, so i cannot take "honors" courses. These put me in roughly the 20th percentile of my class. I have taken 2 sat II's and have scores of 770 and 710, and I got a 212 on the PSAT at the beginning of sophomore year. I play two sports, and will likely be the captain in each. Also, I volunteer weekly in my community. Based on these, what are my chances of getting into ivy leagues/duke/UVa?

Can’t really tell. More info necessary. More detail on EC’s. School type? Hooks? I’m guessing no APs as well? Recommendations? Essay? These are all things to add to accurately chance.

Thanks for replying.

In terms of extracurriculars, I was on JV soccer as a freshman and varsity soccer and volleyball as a sophomore. I’m on pace to be captain in both. I’m also on the debate team and came in 9th in New York (though at the JV level.) I am a peer tutor for spanish and english on various mornings.

I go to a catholic school, and not to brag, but it is a really good school. In freshman year the standard bio class prepaired us for the AP, and I got a 5 on it. The same applies this year, and i expect to get a 5 on the US History AP test.

At this point, I really haven’t started looking for recommendations, and really don’t have any idea for my essay.

You’re book smart. 3.83 on a 4.0 scale would be… 95.75. Though, the average GPA in Ivy Leagues are usually… 97+ I think.

My friend got rejected from Yale, though, and she had a 99.33 GPA, so it’s hard to tell. But, she’s going to Columbia, and mind you, she’s valedictorian.

But remember this, Stanford University had enough valedictorian applicants to fill up it’s entire Freshman Class, but not everyone that was accepted was valedicotrian. So, look at this, you’re not valedictorian (20th percentile isn’t valedictorian I think… not too good with these terms… sorry!) but you can still get in. It’s not all about grades.

SAT Score? 2200+ are wonderful for Ivies and schools up there.

Maybe become more involved in worldy aspects? Community service? Not just sports, or debate teams. Not to degrade them, those are great things that show your interest, but show that you’re dedicated to the community.

20th percentile at most public schools is a very poor percentile to be applying from for ivies
