UMich is definitely my dream (and kind of reach) school, but I think I have a decent shot at getting in. I also believe my family would qualify for a fairly decent financial aid package.
Senior in hs, Out of State (Massachusetts). Desired Major: Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering
Weighted GPA: 3.8/4.0
Unweighted GPA: 3.3/4.0
I’m aware that my GPA is low, but I didn’t care about school freshman year and the first half of sophomore year. My grades after show an incredible upward trend. (not trying to sound pretentious. I went from a D+ to an A in chem in one term and kept it)
ACT Composite: 28/36
AP scores: APUSH 3/5 (only one worth reporting)
strength of schedule: 22 honors classes, 5 AP classes (human geography bio, apush, physics calc)
senior year: ap physics 1, ap calculus, english honors, hs required class, two major related classes
ECs/ achievements:
-played soccer for the school since freshman year
-played baseball freshman to junior year
summer job last summer
- ~30 community service/volunteer hours
-merit award for 3d animation junior year
Not much. I know.
Other:
-essays on common app are very strong
-letters of recommendation will be very strong as well. I picked the teachers wisely (one is in the computer field).
-counselor recommendation will be great as well (baseball coach)
-plan to visit campus before december and apply early action
My grades did not reflect my potential freshman and part of sophomore year. I know everybody with bad grades says this, but it is true. I think I showed my potential with test scores and essays. I know Michigan will be a reach school, but by how much?
