Chinese Male, 30th ranked public school in New York.
School doesn't rank but definitely top 20%, im assuming between 10-15%

I am looking to major in Business Management.

What are my chances at Stern ED1? THANKS!!

I’d say you have pretty good chances especially since you are EDing!

hi nyusternie. are you sure? because 92% of stern’s students are top 10% of their grade. and im definitely not top 10%, though i am in national honors society so i’m definitely top 20%. i think im around 12-15%

I know someone who was in the top 5 percent that didn’t get into Stern at my school. I also know people who were probably just barely in the top 20 percent who got in. It all depends on your school and everything else so I wouldn’t definitely not look too much into that.

that is very true. stern is my ultimate dream school, but i am so skeptical on whether I will get in early decision.

My other option is to apply ED to my 2nd choice, Emory’s Goizueta business school. There, the acceptance rate jumps from 26.7% regular decision to 52.1% early decision. I am extremely confident I can get accepted ED there, but not so sure about RD. That’s why I am stuck between going for my ultimate goal of stern or a safer bet of emory. What do you think?

ED to the school that you WANT to go to (not just a school that you can get into.) If Stern is your ultimate dream school, then apply ED. Your chances are honestly pretty good and would even be pretty good if you RD to be honest. If you don’t get into Stern ED, you have a great chance of getting into Emory RD. Apply ED to Stern because you want to go to Stern. Good luck.

Thanks so much! Yeah Stern is without a doubt my dream school, but I didn’t want to end up getting rejected by both Stern and Emory.

But yeah I really hope your idea of my chances are more accurate than mines.

Is there anything else I can do to improve chances now? I’ve visited NYU, but maybe visit stern to show interest, or increase my SAT score, or do something productive all of August?

Visiting Stern won’t do anything if you’ve already visited NYU. There really isn’t much you can do as your SAT is in range. Unless you think you can bring it up more (which would be pretty hard) then the only thing you can do is make sure your essays are solid.
