Hi all, I am wondering if you guys think I would stand a chance at getting into UVA. I'm am considering if it would be worth it to take SAT II tests (UVA is the only school I'm interested in the recommends SAT II tests).
My Gpa weighted is a 3.9 (unweighted 3.59), but I have greatly improved as a student from freshman to junior year.
My complete schedule is:
Middle school: Algebra 1, French I and French II
Freshman: English honors, Introduction to business and marketing, P.E.,French III, Pre A.P. world history (basically honors), Geometry, Earth science honors. (freshman and middle school GPA: 3.63)
Sophomore:P.E., English honors, French IV, Chemistry, Algebra II, A.P. World history, Honors Biology (4.03 GPA)
Junior: Academic U.S. History, Honors English, A.P. Chemistry, A.P. Biology, Pre-calculus, A.P. Economics, French V (4.24 GPA)
Senior Year schedule (Will start this fall): A.P. Human Geography, A.P. Government, Philosophy/International relations, academic English, Physics, A.P. Calculus, A.P. French. (halfway through the first quarter I have 100% in every class)
My current ACT scores are:
English: 23
Math:28
Science: 29
Reading: 33
Essay: 9
Composite: 28
I have already taken the ACT for a second time and will know my score shortly.
My extracurricular's are solid. I have spent a large amount of time shadowing doctors at the hospital, which I believe to be my most unique activity.
Additional info: I am a resident of Virginia, and also my aunt and cousin went to UVA (not sure if that is enough to be considered a legacy)

GPA isn’t great, but upward trend in grades can compensate for that.
Virginia resident matters.
Aunt and cousin do not matter.
Have you tried a practice SAT? If you score in a higher percentile on it, consider switching which test you focus on.
What did you learn from shadowing?

You do have the upward trend in GPA, but that only partially compensates for the overall lower average. Your test scores, I’m sorry, are rather low.

Human Geography is sort of a joke- I self studied a 5 in 3 days. If you can take US history, do it.

Because your in state, you’re not out of the question, but it is a high match - reach for you when you think pessimistically. Don’t get me wrong; you have a chance, but it’s contingent on your standardized test scores.

@Rlee07928 @FCCDAD Thanks for the feedback! I just checked my ACT score and got it up to a 31! do you guys think my scores are now up to par?

I think your new ACT score is certainly an improvement. Upward trend will be a plus. I think your essay might become a crucial factor since your kind of on the fence.

Please chance back:

So far as I can tell, 3.59 unweighted and 31 ACT is a classic waitlist profile.

Definitely wait for your first term grades before submitting application. You will need any improvement in gpa that you can get.

I mean, the test scores are big. UVA is a big school- they probably claim holistic admissions, but really don’t have a ton of time to dedicate to each applicant. The 31 will get you moved on in the process. It improves your chances significantly.

Yes you are in.
