Will I be able to get into UVA?

Hello, I am an approaching senior in high school and, thus far, University of Virginia is my top choice when it comes to colleges (since I can't imagine going anywhere else). I am a Virginia resident, which I hear increases my chances of getting in since UVA tends to favor in-state students, but I am not relying upon it.

Here are my stats:
8th grade:
Algebra 1- A
French 1- A

Freshman year-
Pre-AP English 9- A
Pre-AP Biology- A
Pre-AP World History- A
Phys. Ed.- A
Pre-AP French II- A
Nutrition & Wellness- A
Pre-AP Geometry- A

Sophomore year-
Pre-AP English 10- A
Pre-AP Chemistry- A
AP European History- A
Phys. Ed. and Driving- A
Pre-AP French III- A
Adv. Earth Science - A
Pre-AP Algebra II/Trig.- B+

Junior Year-
AP English Lang. & Comp.- A
Functions Trig. - A (not an AP, but weighted like one)
AP Biology-A
AP United States History-A
Anatomy & Physiology-A
Forensics-A
Pre-AP French IV- A
Computer Applications- A

Class rank- 18 out of 717
GPA- I haven't seen my end of year transcript yet, but I think my weighted is a 4.3 and unweighted is a 3.97, but I may be off.

AP Scores- Euro.-4, U.S. history- 5, Lang. & Comp.-5, Biology-4
ACT + Writing- 32
SAT (which I am going to take again in October to get about a 2100)- 1980
I will take SAT subject tests in Biology and U.S. history in November.

My schedule next year will consist of: AP Chemistry & Lab, AP Calculus AB, AP U.S. Government, Pre-AP French V, English 12, SOL-Based Physics

I have been on my Varsity Girls Tennis team for the past 3 years (plan to continue senior year). I am also in National Honor Society, French Honor Society (member and secretary), and Model United Nations. My school also offers the Biotechnology program, which I am a part of, and I have 90+ hours at the animal shelter.

If accepted, I plan to major in Biology and minor in History, while being on the pre-med track.

Thank you for reading this exceptionally long post (sorry), and I look forward to reading any comments.

Yup, great chances as long as you raise your SAT score

Yah I think you can get into UVA. Good Luck!

UVA is legally required to admit 66% in state. You’ll get in.

UVA: Match

But what region of Virginia do you live in? It is not sufficient to be a Virginia resident; Northern Virginia accounts for more in-state applicants than anywhere else.

Also, after I retake my SATs and ACTs, if I don’t raise my SAT score by that much, but I happen to get a 33-35 on my ACTs, will it be to my advantage to only submit my ACT scores, or should I just submit both of them and hope for the best?

I’m right on board with you in regards to having UVA as my far away #1 school and from the looks of it I see you getting in way before me!

I went to an info session and they said send all scores. They don’t hold it against you and go off the highest score.

Not even taking into consideration the quality of the applicants, the population of Northern Virginia comprises about one-quarter of the state total. Wouldn’t it make sense that NOVA would account for more in-state applicants than any other area in the commonwealth?

What does not make sense is why Northern Virginia should proportionally account for more U-Va refusals than any other area of the state. (Well, in a political realm it makes sense. )

Getting back to the O/P’s question – agree the SAT is low for U-Va … unless living outside of NOVA.

I know that my SATs are a tad low, however, when I looked at the stats of recently admitted students, my SAT scores (being a 640 in critical reading, 660 in math, and 680 in writing) were within their SAT average medians. If I don’t raise my scores by that much, will it really be a make or break, considering my grades, rank, and ec’s seem to be good?

you’re in ;)

Just keep in mind that the SAT average includes football players, basketball players, lacrosse players . . .

I also have a job too, if that helps with extracurriculars.
