Now, there are a few factors to this. I did poorly on the SATs, and am still going to take the subjects as I didn't feel ready for them. I was abroad in Brazil for 4 years, so I had some transfer credits that ended up messed up but this was the best my counselor could do for me. Everything before AP US History was transferred credits, and the courses under it are what I took this year. I am going to be a senior starting in August, and this is what my curriculum is looking like so far:

Semester 1:
AP US History
AP Eng Language
AP Eng Literature
AP Environmental Sciences
AP Calculus AB
AP Psychology

Semester 2:
(Dual Enrollment) Statistics I
(Dual Enrollment) Microeconomics
AP Eng Literature
AP Environmental Sciences
AP Calculus AB
AP Psychology

Now, my first semester has English and US History again because I only did one semester of Junior year since I was in Brazil until January this year, hence I need the full credit.

Now, I am going to re-take the SATs. I hope to take my scores up to at least 700 on each section, and I'm hoping to take the Math II/Lit/US Hist subject tests and get at least a 700 in each of those, too. I am fully dedicating myself to those scores. I still don't know anything about my AP test scores, but I reckon I got a 4 or 5 in Eng Lang, probably something poor such as a 2 in Chemistry, and a 3/4 in US History.

Realistically, what are my chances at Boston University and NYU? At both I'm looking into coursing Economics, and at NYU I'm looking at getting into the Stern School of Business. I also know it seems like a reach, but I really have a unique perspective and I guess my differential is having studied abroad for so long in a non-American school system, it was hard to adapt and my credits were a bit poorly transferred. I was rushed on my SAT essay, which is why I got such a low score - I can do much better and I'm a very good writer and I'm sure I have unique content for my admission essay. I have a true passion for Economics and both unis and I'm sure I can make that evident in my writing. I'm also low income and first generation college student.

So, chance? Thanks in advance :)

U could get into Boston. NYU probably GSP.

Boston U--no problem--even with old SAT scores
NYU--with current SAT scores--slight reach to reach
NYU--with projected scores--match

Thanks for the replies =)

Now, if I am able to better my SAT scores and continue to do well in my classes next year, while also taking into account the fact I studied abroad and all my past credits were given on the basis that no advanced courses were offered in Brazil, would it be a stretch to go for UPenn Wharton and Columbia? Those two have always been my dream schools, I'd like to know how much of a reach they are for me.

Also, taking into account my current profile and projected scores - what are the best undergrad business schools that you guys could reccomend that'd match me?

Thanks a lot in advance :)

Just giving it a bump =)

Bump again, sorry :) Just want some more opinions.

You'd need to move those test scores to at least 2150 (2200 would be better) for Wharton and Columbia.

Best undergrad business schools that I think you can get into would be:

Michigan, NYU, UNC, Texas, Virginia, USC, CMU, Villanova and maybe Cornell, Boston College and Georgetown with improved SAT scores.

As far as schools with good econ programs: Chicago (a slight reach, but maybe), Northwestern (also a slight reach), UCLA (OOS), Emory, Carleton, and maybe Tufts.

Well I took the SATs highly unprepared, I was up late that night and had a few problems. I'm sure I can bring my scores up to a 2200ish, maybe higher.

Is Boston College a better choice than Boston University? For a future investment banker, what's the best school within my reach ? What should I apply to as safety with, say, my current SAT scores? Also, if I improve my SAT scores and get good subject scores - is there a chance at UPenn Wharton or Columbia, given my context which explains my lack of ECs? I kid you not when I say that much to my dismay there were NO extracurricular opportunities for my in Brazil, schools just don't offer that kind of stuff over there.

Bump, again. Just got too far back in line for anyone to see :)

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuump =)

NYU=reject
BU=reject

Chances are, you could get to Boston U, but NYU would be a reach with your SAT scores as they are. Boston College would also be a reach, but like you said, retake the SATs and perhaps take the ACT as well and you should be able to get into those as well, with solid essays/recs. Even if you improve your scores for UPenn or Columbia, it still is unlikely to get in (for anyone, although possible). Some other schools I might suggest with good business programs but maybe more in your reach are: U Maryland College Park or Penn State U-University Park. Don't discount large state schools, they often can have the best programs and opportunities! hope this helps, and good luck

I understand that with my current SAT scores many many colleges will be a reach. But I'm looking at vastly improving them, as for my course load - it's the only thing I could get. I had no access to more advanced courses, I lived in a foreign country in a foreign system which has nothing to do with the U.S. system. There were no ECs, will they not contextualize that being overseas I did the best I possibly could?

Anyhow, thanks for the opinions :)
