chances?

Your a seem to be a typical Asian (with low test score though).

I’m not…

How do you stand out then?

Meh, at the present time, probably a mid/high reach, since your test scores are lower than those of the stereotypical Asian…AA sucks, does it not…

i’m afraid you don’t stand out from people who are like you with similar SAT’s
get your SAT’s up and get some hooks

I stand out because of my personality, which will be evident in my essays and interview

Would affirmative action require that I be compared with other asians? I thought it only affected someone by helping, not hurting

Well if they wanted diversity and you have little to offer then they have a good reason to reject you. I mean not to sound critical here but your application is a typical one from many Asians. You don’t seem to having to bring to Brown. Lets look it this way, people who volunteer to help disabled kids play baseball could potentially start an organization that is similar at Brown. Or people who are good at research (say discovered a negative effect of a chemical in nature) can potentially help make novel discoveries at Brown. Or a very good orchestra player who can become a member of the orchestra. Those are the people that Brown wants. Brown’s reason of rejecting Asian isn’t because they are Asian, they bring little or nothing to the table that would look impressive and Brown would want them to continue at Brown University.

get your cr over 700 and try to stand out a little in some way special. Your chances will go up to about 15-20%
