I believe that my essay will enhance my application (considering talking about my parents divorce..any thoughts on that?) Also I think that my teacher recs will be very solid.

Couldn’t quite decipher if you’re currently a junior or senior. If you’re a junior and there’s any way you can take pre-calc this year and take calc as a senior that would be ideal. Aside from a lack of calc (which is not require but recommended) your schedule looks great. Without knowning more about your school and it’s grading system it’s hard to assess your grades but we like to see mostly As (which given that your weighted GPA is a 102 you likely have). If your school ranks and you’re in the top 10% then your grades are solid.

For the SAT, we focus on the Critical Reading + Math. Not sure what your score is out of 1600. The middle 50% of our out-of-state students scores between a 1380-1450 (31-32 on the ACT) so taking either the SAT or ACT again is advisable. Standardized tests are one part of our process; no more and no less but they do make you a more or less competitive applicant so trying a test again cannot hurt you. You are welcome to submit an ACT and SAT II scores without submitting an SAT one.

Your ECs look strong especially if you’re only a junior. Continue to pursue those that you are committed to (so you have some four-year commitments on your resume) and continue to pursue leadership positions.

You can also consider doing an interview (next summer if you’re a junior or this fall if you’re a senior). This is a great way to add a more personal dimension to your app.

As for your proposed essay topic, parental divorce is a fairly common topic and is generally written about the same way by every student. Check out our recent Admit It! blogs on essays for some advice as to how to find a more unique topic.

Applying ED if W&M is your top choice is a great idea. The pool is much smaller so it’s easier for any applicant to stand out.
